The Founding Fathers anticipated Trump, so the put guardrails in place. What they did not anticipate was a Congress that would not only refuse to implement he guardrails and fail to resist him, but actually support his actions.

If a president wanted to become effectively a dictator, he’d likely:
1. Purge govt of non loyalists
2. Weaponize law against opponents
3. Use military to police opposition strongholds
4. Threaten media, schools, businesses w penalties to get them to heel
5. Change election rules in his favor.

I think the most wrong I have ever been as a political scientist was when I said in a public forum in 2020 that there would not be political violence in the US (Jan 6 was 2 mos later).
Tonight’s purges are a clear precursor to more future such violence. This is textbook authoritarian abuse stuff.

What I think everyone is overlooking is that the Republican majority in Congress could legally do most of the same things he is doing - but they aren’t and they never have. That’s how you know it is not at all about Republicanism or Conservatism.
