Drivers do not associate their vehicles and trips with wearing down the road surface faster and leaving the Council to catch up. So I’ve connected the dots at the end of the article. (Headline not my quote!)

RoadPeace has provided incredibly important support and advocacy for road crash victims. Our thoughts go out to the excellent staff and volunteers, as well as victims and families who will be impacted by this announcement. We are absolutely devastated. 💜
Sad news from RoadPeace today.

Today's 'amber' rating for highway maintenance is unsurprising. However the documents reveal that Birmingham City Council is spending £139 million on maintaining roads this year. Remember that figure when soemone criticises the cost of a transport project!

Pedestrians have indeed lost a lot to #UKCarCulture in Birmingham. But there is something we can do about it!

@betterstreetsforbirmingham.org meets on the first Monday of every month, 6 PM, @birminghamfoe.bsky.social.

All welcome to join us to reclaim the public space of our streets!
Birmingham appears to have abandoned most implementation of road traffic and environmental regulations. Private vehicles commonly driven at excessive speeds, clog bus lanes, routinely parked at bus stops, on corners, on lawns, on pavements, blocking pedestrians. Pedestrians have lost all to vehicles

None of these vehicles fit inside on street parking spaces and consequently they should not be being issued with residents’ parking permits. This seems very obvious to me.

Pavement parking is completely out of control in Birmingham. It is an everyday experience to navigate around parked cars and other vehicles obstructing the pavement, forcing children, parents with prams, the elderly, blind people and those in wheelchairs into the road.

If you want to open a small parklet in front of your coffee shop in Oakland it’s about $17000 your first year and $1800 in fees every year afterward.

If you want to use a whole bike lane to illegally park cars waiting for service it is apparently $0 and 0 cents because this is happening all over.
