No more "Wuthering Heights" adaptations, please. Throw "Jane Eyre" and all Jane Austen novels in there too. There are more stories.

One hill I will die on is that every single kid/teenager/human under 22 must have hated Rory Gilmore (save for Lane). #gilmoregirls

This is why no one and I mean NO ONE else could have sung "On My Own" with Ms. Patti LaBelle.

It's perhaps the greatest breakup song of all time. "Now we're out here talking divorce...and we weren't even marrieeeeed..."
After making a big deal about exceptions all I could come up with was..the doobie brothers. And then we figured out I really just meant Micheal McDonald.

We now call it the McDonald Exemption.

I love Keri Russell. Probably in part because I saw her at Marshall’s with her son looking like the most normal Brooklyn mom ever.

Two things are true: 1. We wouldn‘t need SNAP to the extent that we do if companies paid a living wage and offered health insurance and other benefits to employees. 2. There should always be a robust government program that offers food assistance to individuals and families who are struggling.

If you're not over D'Angelo's passing, you are not alone. I keep dipping into his music, getting emotional, and dipping back out.

Agreed. AI is already peddling some dystopian shit and a product that calls itself “friend”? BIG ol’ nope. #ai #fuckthis

I have a not particularly original gripe about movies and moviemakers that seem more interested in being weird than being good. Being both is not only possible but fantastic. This one looked like the former to me.
The headline slightly overstates the case--I neither know whether Bugonia will get Oscar noms, nor did I *totally* hate it--but yeah, Yorgos Lanthimos' claustrophobic black comedy about a low-wage worker who kidnaps & tortures his Big Pharma boss was definitely not my bag.

It’s Going to Be Nominated for All the Oscars. I Hated It.
Emma Stone is phenomenal in the new movie from the auteur behind Poor Things. Too bad about that ending.

I would love to see more rich and famous people funding literary culture (they could still do something big with their names on it!) rather than pretending that they can write fiction.

Not having a Nazi tattoo is the lowest fucking bar for any candidate to clear, and certainly for a Dem. The wellll discourse around it is fucking ridiculous. If you can’t clear the bar that’s literally at the center of the earth, don’t run for fucking office.

This is what is confounding me about any convo involving AI and writing. Why would you outsource any part of the writing process to something that will do mediocre work, at best, and rob you of the best parts.

That’s the other thing that baffles me about AI and creative writing, actually.

The work IS the joy for me. I don’t want to be able to snap my fingers and have a completed “product.” I want to be transformed by the process. I’m an author but I do this because I enjoy the rigor of being a writer.
In terms of process, I enjoy writing but revising????? Oh, that’s my real kink. A second or third draft???? A fourth???? Making tweaks on my desktop AND my phone???? *moans* I’m a WHORE for revision.

“Two-fifths of a fart” is an incredible turn of phrase and this is why humans are awesome.
I'm not going to dunk-quote but I do have to note that "you only hate LLMs because you're too stupid to appreciate how awesome it is" is the exact argument we heard on loop from people whose ugly monkey jpegs are now worth approximately two-fifths of a fart

Opinion | D'Angelo's Pentecostal sound
One of the innovators of what was called neo-soul, D’Angelo’s influence was far greater than you might expect from someone who only released three studio albums.

D’Angelo was one of the most widely revered artists of the past 30 years.

He began his career as a songwriter for other artists, but quickly asserted himself as a solo star with his 1995 debut 'Brown Sugar.'

It’s impossible to overstate how much “abolish ice” is the normie position now here in chicago — just countless random moms at toddler soccer on a park district field asking me where I bought my anti-ice t-shirt. average people don’t like our neighborhoods being terrorized.
A friend ran the Chicago marathon today and said he couldn’t count the number of FUCK ICE signs along the way.

I agree with this. I would add only (hah) that so much of writing 101 goes too hard on the rules and scares people away from playing on paper.

Pelvic floor therapy is essential for anyone struggling with pelvic floor issues. But because those issues are understood as "feminine", they're ignored. EVERYONE HAS A PELVIS. And anyone can need treatment.
October 6, 2025 at 4:25 PM
A teacher friend is struggling with the same issue and it's awful. Learning to write, learning to love to write or even just tolerate it, learning what your voice sounds like on the page (or screen) is hugely important.
Students using AI is definitely the thing that is going to break me. Not even failing grades work as a deterrent.
