The "appropriate response" is to broadcast everything that Trump did and said on that appalling day for American democracy and then to tell this moron to sling his hook.
I might be wrong, but this stinks of Pharage involvement.

The best thread on the Edmund Fitzgerald you'll read.
#OTD in Weather History, 48 years ago, on November 10, 1975, the ore freighter SS EDMUND FITZGERALD was lost with all hands in a severe storm on Lake Superior.

She is perhaps the best known shipwreck on the Great Lakes, and today we remember her loss. 1/

Both this and... this doesn't raise much money! Its a couple of billion here and there: it will not fill the gap in the budget, give you headroom or allow money to invest.

All you're doing is pissing off a lot of core voters for little gain!
If you think that “the slow vanishing of employee benefits” is a better trade politically than “the other lot saying you broke your promise on income tax”, you are out of your tree: www.ft.com/content/1160...

Whole fucking thing makes me sick to my stomach. An abject fucking liar, a man who lies as easily as he fucking breathes, threatening an organisation which strives for truthfulness. And plastic patriots like the Mail and Farage urging him on. Jackels.

Dem shutdown messaging should be:
1) "Donald Trump is willing to cancel flights at Thanksgiving and starve American citizens in order to deprive people of affordable health insurance"
2) "Donald is doing all this to cover up the Epstein Files"
3) "Donald controls all three branches of government."

Important to be clear here that the proposed homes wouldn't mean demolishing the 18th century garden - it's just that they might possibly be visible from it. What appallingly selfish behaviour.

[Thread] All the times Arnold Schwarzenegger almost reprised his role as Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer (Predator, 1987) in another Predator movie, but oops, he didn't.

You could make a movie just about that.

The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.

"Donald Trump is willing to cancel flights at Thanksgiving and starve American citizens in order to deprive people of affordable health insurance" was a winning message for the Democrats. The polls and Tuesday's elections proved it. But they flinched, behaving as though winning was losing.

A single shared source of truth is essential for a functioning democracy.

Without it you’re left with fragmentation, polarisation and a perpetual culture war where the discourse focuses on what divides us rather than what we have in common.

In other words, US politicians and pressure groups can pipe the party line directly into millions of households unchallenged, in a way that is much harder in the UK.

This has a huge impact both on trust and cohesion, and on whether politicians feel the need to appeal to moderates or just partisans.

Quick thread on the BBC and the political and societal significance of recent developments:

One of the main reasons the UK has historically been so much less polarised than the US, is that Britain has a shared source of information, consumed and trusted by most people regardless of their politics.

This is full of mildly astonishing revelations about right-wing influence at the BBC, but foremost among them is the fact that he was advised that writing for the New Statesman was effectively unacceptable but doing so for the Spectator was fine - indeed, advisable. I am flabbergasted.
