WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-02) announced plans to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem following the fatal shooting by an ICE officer in Minneapolis.

ICE and the DHS need IMMEDIATE consequences for assassination of a civilian at point blank range today in Minnesota. Speak up and speak out. Censure those responsible. ICE has zero accountability and is clearly filled with trigger happy thugs. Get them out of our cities before they murder anyone else.

Today we watched a US Citizen exercising her right to document law enforcement officers be summarily executed. ICE is going far beyond its mandate to enforce customs and immigration, acting outside our nation’s laws and due process. What’s more, this administration’s obsession with mass deportations means under-trained officers on our streets and in our communities. Congress authorized ICE. Congress funded ICE. As my congressional representatives I urge you to hold ICE to account.

On January 7, 2026, we witnessed a tragic and devastating event: the loss of a brave Minneapolis woman who stood up for the freedom and safety of her immigrant neighbors. She was murdered by the misguided actions of a militia-style force within Homeland Security under Kristi Noem. This was not an isolated incident; it follows a disturbing pattern of escalating violence and misinformation that is propagated by the MAGA regime and right wing news sources. Including false claims surrounding the murder of former state House Speaker Melissa Hortman and a relentless attack on Governor Tim Walz. We are living under a regime that prioritizes power and profit over the lives of everyday people. The actions of ICE have escalated to a point where they are no longer enforcing laws. They are instead endangering our communities and our and lives. The lethal force employed against a woman simply standing witness to their assault is a chilling reminder of the consequences of allowing armed, untrained agents to operate in our neighborhoods without accountability. It is crucial to recognize that ICE and the Department of Homeland Security have become an untrained, masked militia posing a direct threat to our families, our freedoms, and our futures. Their operations, characterized by intimidation, abduction, and violence, only serve to perpetuate fear and targeting those who are simply seeking a better life. We the people must take action. I urge you to arrest the ICE agents responsible for this murder and remove ICE from our communities to prevent further loss of life and destruction of families. This is not a call for condemnation without direction; it is a demand for accountability and justice. The presence of ICE serves only to undermine our safety and security rather than bolster it. Please consider the impact of these choices on our communities and your constituents and respond by taking concrete steps to ensure these kinds of tragedies are not repeated.
