Man conducts regime change in his neighborhood in the spirit of Trump's takeover of Venezuela

I keep thinking about this from the "Army Talk: Fascism" fact sheet, shared by Maddow, that was distributed to US soldiers in 1945.

"Every measure taken by fascism — its entire economic, social, political, and military set-up — means eventual war."

So, here we are.

Trump planning "a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago" (his private club with an initiation fee of $1 million, & annual dues of $20,000) to boast about his war crimes in Venezuela should make every patriotic American furious.

goodby to all that

(I rarely even pop over to twitter, but it weirdly meant something to me in the early days. I was hanging on to my old profile in hopes that it would be sold again. But, things don't often "go back" and twitter is clearly never going to be what it once was.)

Happy New Year!

I've watched all of these Rankin/Bass stop-motion animations w my kids SO MANY TIMES over the past 10 years & "Rudolph's Shiny New Year" remains my very favorite.

This year revealed new depths of depravity from Trump and his supporters.

But we also saw a lot of Americans of all walks of life stand up and sometimes take great risks for their neighbors or strangers.

Here’s hoping that the light keeps growing.

Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing a text, writing an email, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing since the dawn of time.

I’ve been on a Target boycott because I don’t want to reward their anti-DEI capitulation. But I had to pick up something there yesterday. So this is what the place where I used to buy all the Cat & Jack “Girl Power” tees is up to now. 🎯

If you want to get your kids off brain-rot screens, you have to give them other fun easy stuff to read—and that’s not always a whole book, which can feel like a commitment. Some great print magazines for kids. (I’m partial to Kazoo.)
The best magazine subscriptions for kids of all ages that also make great holiday gifts. Magazines include ‘Highlights,’ ‘Anorak,’ ‘Ranger Rick,’ ‘Anyway,’ ‘Kazoo,’ and ‘The Week, Junior.’

I fell into some Andrea Gibson poetry today. You might already know this poem, "Boomerang Valentine" but in case you don't I recommend you give yourself a break from doomscrolling and listen: youtu.be/0HWQ08XAYbY?...

AOC: I want to remind you where the real crime is. It's in the oligarchs taking $170 billion of our money from health care and food assistance and public programs and taking that and funneling it into a secret police program.

People who argue "who cares it's just for kids" all I can say is fuck right off. Kids deserve thoughtful, well-made movies that challenge them just as much as adults do. Kids aren't stupid, and they remember how movies affect them basically forever.
