Nasra Ahmed, a 23-year-old US citizen, was arrested and detained by ICE. She was held for TWO DAYS.
ICE agents handcuffed her, called her a racial slur, and she was knocked to the ground so hard she got a concussion.

For this kind of jail support, very little knowledge of criminal law or procedure is necessary. National Lawyers Guild offers training that can get anyone up to speed. But until recently, arrested citizens were mostly released on the demand of their attorney because ICE has no authority to hold them

it would be nice if there were some high viewership news organizations with an across the board following that weren't afraid to put the few leaders who do say these sorts of things occasionally on national tv news when they do say it.

I hate to be a broken record on this but politicians ~have agency~ in shaping the national discourse. Abolish ICE is at 50% based on what people are seeing and not on what politicians are saying. We should want leaders who push public opinion and are not so scared they render themselves meaningless.
People are waving around 50/50 polling on abolish ICE and in the same poll Trump’s is like 30 points under water on affordability. It’s not at all crazy for professional politicians to think there’s a bigger advantage in talking about the latter!
