I randomly grabbed this book last night while straightening up my bedroom. When I opened it, I read and then reread and then read one more time this poem by Joy Harjo. I will be enraged if we continue to have a stalemate on the council president position. This seems so straightforward. What kind of city do we want to be? The progressive city we *claim* to be? Or a kind that fronts as progressive but serves the interests of the wealthy? If there was ever a time...
It feels really important that Portland City Council members recognize the magnitude of this moment and appoint a strong progressive council president who can lead and fight for the people of Portland who are most impacted by the cruelty of the moment.
