Jeff Kent's No. 21 never went out of circulation with the Giants (Not surprisingly). 18 players have worn that number since his 6-year stint in San Francisco ended after the 2002 season. A player has worn it every season since then with the exception of 2012 and 2018.

The #SFGiants will hold a Hall of Fame celebration for Jeff Kent on August 29. This ceremony will include having his number retired. Kent appeared in 17 MLB seasons, 6 of which came with San Francisco. This included his 2000 MVP season.

I think one area where the #SFGiants are beginning to have a lot of depth on the prospect side is their middle infield group. Jhonny Level, Josuar Gonzalez, Gavin Kilen, and Luis Hernández headline that group and that's probably one of the best units in baseball at the moment.

The #SFGiants have announced their signing class, including Luis Hernández. There may be more to come, but they are operating within a relatively small bonus pool of $5.44M.

The #SFGiants have signed OF Jared Oliva to a minor league deal. Oliva has a .755 OPS across 8 minor league seasons. With the Brewers Triple-A club in 2025, he recorded a .748 OPS with 11 home runs and 44 RBI in 398 plate appearances. This includes 57 steals in 63 chances.

Fun fact, thanks to Jesse Borek of MLB Pipeline:

Luis Hernandez is the first ever Venezuelan prospect to be the #1 ranked international prospect in MLB Pipeline's rankings of international signing pools. 🇻🇪

The Giants investment in Latin America changed with Bobby Evans, and then really continued with Farhan Zaidi, and both Gonzalez's and Hernandez's commitments were made while Zaidi was in charge. Hopefully it only continues with Posey, doesn't look like it will stop.

The Giants are trying to correct decades of self-inflicted mistakes in Latin America
For the second consecutive year, the organization is poised to sign the top position player on the international free agent market.

The 2026 international signing period is here. The #SFGiants have a bonus pool of $5.44M and have been connected to IF Luis Hernández, P Alexis Gallego, and OF Angel Ugueto. The new class is usually officially signed within the first couple of days of the period opening up.

The Giants are signing pitcher Mitch White, but not the same Mitch White who briefly pitched for them in 2024. This one pitched to a 3.77 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 31 innings in the Frontier League this past season. This will be White's first trip in affiliated ball.

Really interesting discussion here from the folks at Baseball America about the Giants' top prospects. Ben Badler makes the case that if Josuar Gonzalez was in the 2025 draft, he would have been in consideration for the No. 1 pick

FWIW Kyle Haines on the Splash Territory podcast confirmed that Victor Bericoto re-signed with the Giants on a minor league deal and it sounds like he might get a camp invite.

Sharing because a few folks asked about him earlier in the offseason.

There's kind of a funny contrast between Logan Webb, who leads baseball with 1,022.2 innings pitched since 2020, and the Giants rotation that has thrown the third-fewest innings (4,239 innings) in that time. I realize some of this is watered down by the use...

Giants had the third worst wRC+ vs. LHP in 2025 (78 wRC+). Giants OF had 73 wRC+ vs. LHP. Giants have not done anything to address this so far. Wiemer was an attempt, but he’s already gone. If the plan is to rely on Matos and Encarnacion, would same error as last offseason (noted below).
Vs LHP:
Flores (109 PA, 79 wRC+). Was bad vs LHP last year, but plan for DH was Flores and Jerar
Matos (63 PA, 55 wRC+). What did he do to get the platoon spot?
Yaz (73 PA, 10 wRC+). Poor decision above led to too many PA

Adames was unforeseen. Tried with Huff for Bailey. Predestined from offseason
Giants ranks:
wRC+: 22 (15 vs RHP, 29 vs LHP)
EV90: 27
SEAGER (swing decisions) 16
K%: 28
Chase%: 7
Zone Contact%: 12
Whiffs vs. secondaries: 18

Giving too many PA to bad LHP hitters, general lack of pop are key drivers in Giants being a bottom tier offense. Plate approach has been ok.

Giants OF was -15 FRV (positive arm value brings them above the -18 OAA). Getting that to 0 is like adding 1.5-2 team wins. Pretty significant benefit, but also an Herculean task. What Shane Robinson accomplishes could be the difference between a wild card spot and missing out by a game or two.
I know the Giants are hoping that outfield defense, to some degree, can improve through coaching and positioning. The Giants were last in outfield defense with -18 OAA in 2025. If the coaching staff can get them to be just average while returning much of the same group...

Justin Dean was DFA’d to clear a roster spot for Tyler Mahle. The Giants picked up two outfielders early (Dean and Joey Wiemer) and both have been let go after other moves. The OF group is about the same as it was at end of season.

In addition to high ground ball rates, the #SFGiants are seemingly cornering the market on pitchers with above-average extension. Caleb Kilian and Nick Margevicius are in the 80th+ percentile in that category. Tyler Mahle ranks favorably as well.

The #SFGiants have signed pitcher Caleb Kilian and infielder Buddy Kennedy to minor league deals, per the team’s transaction log. Kilian was an 8th-round pick by the Giants in 2019 and shipped to the Cubs in the Kris Bryant trade. Kennedy has an .816 OPS across 8 MiLB seasons
