I'd been hearing that Tony Vitello was trying to bring his Tennessee pitching coach, Frank Anderson, with him to San Francisco. Now Baseball America is reporting that it's going to happen. Justin Meccage and Anderson (father of former A's LHP Brett Anderson) will lead the Giants pitching staff.

At this moment, the Giants' 40-man roster only has 1 player on it from their 2021 draft class (Landen Roupp). It has been 4.5 years since that draft, and they just might not get much more from that class. Will Bednar could have them out at some point...

I think it’s bears mentioning that the stick rate on Rule 5 picks is usually pretty low, so while the Giants did not protect anyone, the chances of them losing a player through that channel are low…

I like Harrison Bader's defense as a good fit for the Giants. There is not much in his offensive profile that stands out and looks like a regression candidate in 2026. His agent will likely want to roll his strong year into a multi-year deal or a 1-and-1 contract but...

The #SFGiants' 40-man roster will look a bit different by the end of this week. Tomorrow is the deadline to protect players from the Rule 5 draft, followed by the non-tender deadline on 11/21. They have a handful of players to consider adding to the 40-man, but protecting...

#SFGiants pitching prospect Spencer Miles had a pretty promising AFL season in what was his longest look as a pro since being selected in the 4th round of the 2022 draft.

Parks Harber finished the AFL season slashing .383/.513/.683 with 3 home runs, 15 RBI, and 11 runs in 76 plate appearances. This includes 14 walks against 20 strikeouts. He had one of the stronger seasons of any AFL participant #SFGiants

My colleague Dan Hayes is reporting that the Twins are hiring Mark Hallberg to be their bench coach. Buster Posey had mentioned on Tuesday that several clubs were talking to Hallberg, his former college roommate, who had been a base coach under Gabe Kapler and Bob Melvin in SF.

The #SFGiants will be challenged with improving the outfield defense without drastic changes to the current unit. That unit finished in last in 2025 with -18 OAA. I think a good coaching staff can help improve that mark, and that will be a critical task for Tony Vitello's staff...

This is the fourth offseason I've written about the Giants' total Baseball Operations budget for @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social to get a sense of how much they *might* spend on payroll and all signs point to them needing to raise that budget this winter.

I don't know why it's just kinda funny that the MLB leaders in Run Value by pitch are some of the best starting pitchers in baseball and then a guy who throws 84 MPH while only pitching an inning every couple of days.

Some secondary starting pitcher profiles I like for the #SFGiants and a trait that stands out:

Chris Bassitt: 46.5% GB rate, volume
Merrill Kelly: 3.48 SO/W rate
Zack Littelll: Pitch mix, volume
Griffin Canning: Pitch mix, 50.9% GB rate
Nick Martinez: Barrel, hard-hit rate

A couple of off the radar names who I’ve heard good things about, Matt Pierpont (STL Director of Pitching) and Spenser Davis (Southern Virginia U Pitching Coach). I’ll post my shortlist that I looked into last year and see if any updates are needed.

Hunter Bishop, Cole Waites, Max Stassi, Ethan Small, Chris Wright, Juan Mercedes, Miguel Díaz, Helcris Olivárez, and Drew Ellis are among the others to elect free agency. Bishop was the 1st-round pick by the club in 2019.
Sam Huff and Sean Hjelle have elected free agency, per the #SFGiants transaction log.

Once the #SFGiants activate Erik Miller and Randy Rodríguez from the 60-day injured list, the 40-man roster will be full. With the deadline to protect players from the R5 draft (11/18) and the non-tender deadline (11/21) coming up, there should be some roster activity this month

The qualifying offer is set at just over $22M for 2026, and teams have until today at 2 PM PST to issue a qualifying offer to eligible free agents. If you are a #SFGiants fan, you can probably skip this one. They do not have candidates to receive one.

Hearing that former Padres manager and Twins bench coach Jayce Tingler has agreed to join Tony Vitello's staff in San Francisco. Tingler and Vitello were college teammates at Missouri and have remained close friends, so this is a very predictable outcome.
