“The ribbon machine was extraordinarily complex, and required constant intervention to keep operational. But it could produce bulb blanks in truly staggering volumes. By the early 1980s, fewer than 15 ribbon machines were needed for the entire world’s supply of light bulbs.” 💡

“The OTS, in classic defense fashion, would be renamed the OST. A briefing describes their tactical doctrine: ‘Remain Unpredictable’. Sub-bullets of this concept include ‘Chess Match’ and ‘Ruthless Adherence to Deductive Thought Process’, the meaning of which we could ponder for hours.”

“It’s not impossible to build on a lot like this, but it usually involves more work. Structural engineers are still giving this kind of advice to their clients. ‘I always tell them, pay the foundation person more money than you’d ever imagine paying them, because you will never fix a foundation.’”

Happy 80th birthday Neil Young. Ten years ago I was in LA and I saw him eating dinner with Daryl Hannah. This was his car parked outside the restaurant. Peeked inside and yes there was a huge Pono player.

“‘At the time Amazon had an appetite for a show like that,’ says Conrad, who admits the concept was a bit of a bait-and-switch from the start. ‘I think they were banking that the spy genre was going to do a little more legwork than the show we all privately had in mind.’”

“No matter how unhinged the position you’ve taken, or paid someone marginally credentialed to sketch out on your behalf — ‘Can Woman Think?: We Investigate’, ‘Is the Negro a Man: A Reconsideration’ — that opinion will, by virtue of provenance, possess all needed evidentiary gravity for the Times.”

“‘Fedora Man’, as users dubbed him, was cast as an old-school detective, an inside man, a Netflix pitch — or not human at all. Many were convinced he was AI-generated. Pedro understood why. ‘In the photo, I’m dressed more in the 1940s, and we are in 2025,’ he said. ‘There is a contrast.’”

"That sandwich hasn't exploded at all, has it?" defense asks.

"It looks like a little bit is coming out towards the bottom," Lairmore replies.

It's tough, Mamdani seems like a great guy and inspiring candidate but when you look at the sterling coalition standing against him (Cuomo, Musk, Trump, The NY Post, Dave Portnoy, Bill Ackman, Chuck and Amy Schumer, the little guy from Shark Tank) it's hard to know for certain.
