One site, two permits, two radically different reactions.

NIMBYs overwhelmingly weaponise the planning system against social housing.

It's time to stop listening to NIMBYs and build more homes.

Commonwealth policy leaves young Australians locked out of community housing.

The "youth housing penalty" is one of the factors behind the low rate of social housing tenancies being offered to young people, currently less than 3%. 👇

They said "a new timetable will be in place everywhere" - when the Metro Tunnel opens.
But many lines are missing out, and 30-40+ minute waits remain common. More PT services more often are needed to fix the public transport network, and keep people moving.

For decades, the loudest voices in planning were saying "No." We started YIMBY Melbourne to say "Yes."

The Guardian credits that shift with driving a "planning policy revolution." Proof that when you show up with evidence & optimism, you can change policy!

The United States is a rogue actor throwing the world into disarray. It hosts war criminal Netanyahu, sanctions ICC and European officials, launches strikes around the world, and now kidnaps foreign leaders.

Western allies need to stop it if they truly believe in human rights and international law.

We could build 67,000 extra homes a year & see rents fall 12% in a decade.

How? By fixing our land use planning systems.

Planning is the bottleneck to new housing | Inflection Points
Reforming states’ sclerotic land use planning systems is the key to building more housing. Both state and federal governments must do their part.

this is one of the most insane policies people are subjected to in Australia

if you're in a couple, your partner's income is used to assess *your* eligibility for dole, disability, etc. if your partner makes a basic wage, *you* can't get help

it's designed to keep victims in abusive relationships
I've long criticised the dehumanising and patriarchal partner income test embedded everywhere in the Australian welfare state. The tax on love really does hurt families, and has a real impact on relationship formation or termination.

ChatGPT advised a suicidal young woman on how to take her own life, telling her "If you choose death, I'm with you - till the end, without judging."
I wanted ChatGPT to help me. So why did it advise me how to kill myself?
ChatGPT wrote a woman a suicide note and another AI chatbot role-played sexual acts with children, BBC finds.

Traffic light priority would mean faster trips, more competitive travel times, and even enable more frequent tram services with the current fleet.

I can’t stress enough that if you’re writing anything longer than a couple of paragraphs, spend time thinking about formatting, layout, readability and design.

The amount of work it takes to get to “compelling and professional advocacy” from “unhinged rant” is ten minutes of using a style sheet.
