There's very little understanding of how reliant our civilization is on biodiversity and natural ecosystems, even amongst scientists, for the reason there's no field of science, really studying it. Scientific ecology only really studies non-human organisms.

The best thing that every single person can do to help protect rainforests is to #GoVegan. The animal agriculture industry is the leading driver in rainforest destruction, as well as the biodiversity loss that comes with it.

The EPA has announced changes to the definition of Waters of the U.S. that leave critical systems supporting drinking water, floodwater storage, and biodiversity unprotected. Public comments on the changes are open until January 5, 2026.

This isn’t development.
It’s militarised deforestation — forests flattened, communities displaced, biodiversity buried under orders and machinery.

A rainforest doesn’t fall by accident.
It falls because soldiers are sent in first.

West Papua is being erased at gunpoint.
Indonesian National Armed Forces are deployed not to protect forests or people, but to clear rainforests, secure bulldozers, silence Indigenous resistance, and turn one of Earth’s last intact ecosystems into sugar, rice, and biofuel fields.
West Papua Indonesia Earth's oldest living eco system existing for at least 70 million years

Look at the 292 square Kilometers of ancient forest cleared in just 21 months

Now army brought in to fast track 5 million more acres

I’m seeing a lot of distracting debate about solar versus forests, which entirely misses the point.

Sure it’s preferable to not remove trees for solar farms and we don’t really need to, but in the cases where it does happen it is still net beneficial to the climate to do so.

A state-funded survey across California has uncovered hundreds of fungi new to science, part of a first-of-its-kind biodiversity effort.

Often overlooked, fungi support plant growth and store carbon — knowledge that could guide conservation and forest restoration as wildfires intensify.

Getting to The Cedars, an ecological preserve in California’s Sonoma county, is a slog. Multiple rivers and creeks must be crossed, and it can be tough going on an often storm-destroyed road. But…

Offshore wind farms can act as artificial reefs, massively increasing the amount of shellfish, filter feeders, & attracting more organisms to the structure & habitat.

They literally demonstrably improve the habitat & biodiversity in many places they’re put in.

up. Ecologists need to be involved from the planning stage. Having said that we mustn’t think just because land is green belt doesn’t make it ideal biodiversity territory. A lot of agricultural land is a dessert for wildlife. Housing and biodiversity can be planned together. Need to involve experts.

If wolves are to have a chance at recovery in the Lower 48, they need federal protection, sound science, and public input – not ignorance, and the premature delisting of gray wolves. 🐺
