Economists are at best ill-informed about realities imposed by science. We need fewer people using natural resources if we are being realistic about a finite earth.

Global fire-related tree cover loss reached an all-time high,
with fires in tropical primary forest up 370% over 2023,
fueling rising emissions and biodiversity loss.

So far, in 2025, atmospheric carbon dioxide is at a record level, likely worsened by a sudden drop in land carbon uptake partly due to El Niño and intense forest fires.

Environmental law reforms unlikely to deliver for biodiversity without major strengthening | Biodiversity Council Australia
We are concerned that the Australian Government’s proposed environmental law reforms risk failing to protect nature unless key weaknesses are addressed and loopholes closed.

Yep, agree.
We've already been subjectively & on paper 'balancing', triple-bottom-lining, & no-net-lossing Australia's biodiversity & ecosystems to death over the last 25 yrs of the EPBC Act. Despite it, everything's in decline - death by a 1000 cuts.
Now it seems that process will be fast-tracked.
