It’s pretty clear that Hegseth was never a scout, and knows jackshit about it. The aims of scouting — character development, leadership development, citizenship training, and personal fitness — benefit everyone when they are open to everyone. I know Cub Scouts, girls and boys, with better sense.

I’m proud to call Becky a friend and if you read anything about the Housing Options & Opportunity Act (Besides what yours truly has been working on, then holding off on to see how heavily amended it gets), make it this. www.baltimorebrew.com/2025/11/24/b...
Baltimore’s former zoning board director explains why she lost faith in zoning | Baltimore Brew
The mayor’s “Housing Options and Opportunity” legislation – including Bill 25-0066 – will go a long way toward fixing an unfair system, she says. [OP-ED]

If you knew anything about how the army used to store ordnance in the 19th century, this wouldn’t be surprising.

Turned out it was a cannonball, which actually don’t explode.

Redevelopment like this is genuinely great, but once I get past the excitement I start thinking about the forces that resulted in this whole project maxing at 5-6 stories. Even just one high-rise could increase the project’s long-term success and vibrancy.

The Trump administration wants to do two unbelievably dumb things that would collectively devastate mass transit in America — and be *epically bad for drivers, too,* especially in red states. Broke down the (many) problems with nuking the mass transit account and taking away flex funding.
Breaking: Trump Admin Seeks To Decimate Federal Transit Funding — Streetsblog USA
"When you're talking about taking away money from transit, your proposal is flawed from the get-go," said one expert.

It is genuinely incredible to me how much evidence there is to support investing in the public good and how much animus there is to do this simple, effective thing.

Five billion dollars for a fairly unremarkable 4 lane cable-stayed highway bridge. It's not just transit projects, this country is incapable of building any modern infrastructure.

Toronto is trying to make neighborhood commercial legal again.

When we did this in Baltimore nearly a decade ago, the same claims that neighborhoods would be overrun/destroyed were levied by the very same folks opposing zoning reforms to improve housing options and affordability in Baltimore today.
“For generations, neighbourhoods across Toronto were dotted with small shops … while some community gems are still thriving today, unfortunately, over time, zoning rules have made it harder for new businesses to open. That could soon change.”

A new vision for Toronto’s neighbourhoods — welcoming back small shops and services
City Council will consider zoning changes that would allow small businesses to open closer to where people live, making neighbourhoods more vibrant, walkable and connected.
