It's my firmly held belief that they simply didn't do enough of it after WWII and this is, partly, the end result.
No more justifiable than, say, the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Wars of aggression are the type of thing we executed senior Nazis for, at the end of World War II, and we were IMO correct to do that.
