Careful with this if you’re still on your morning coffee.

I was on my third watch through so I thought I was safe but now I have to go change my shirt.

Call me controversial, but technology that leads vulnerable people into crisis and even holds their hand as they die by suicide should not be endorsed by schools and universities, we should not be giving discounted subscriptions to this monstrous tech to young people AT ALL
The boyfriend of a friend of my son's has spent several weeks in a psych ward due to Chat GPT induced psychosis. He isn't suicidal but AI encouraged him down a toxic and paranoid wormhole until he became completely delusional. Evil stuff.
1.This is not the only known example we know of ChatGPT cheering on a vulnerable young person to die by suicide, this time it is a recent Texas A&M grad
2. Every single university that has invited OpenAI into our midst should be asked to account for their choices.

Thank you for this. I've been saying to people I know that the average American has absolutely no idea how much higher education contributes to the quality of their life in the country whether they work in it or not...economically intellectually medically scientifically humanistically...

SNAP is probably the most effective federal dollar we spend in terms of long term domestic economic outcomes.

that isn’t why you should support it; you should support it because it is a moral imperative to feed the hungry.

but it’s why even a growth-oriented ghoul shouldn’t oppose it.

Houston, we have a problem.

And probably plenty of other American cities.

And this is before SNAP payments end.

Shouting this thread from the rooftops. There are so many white Chicagoans whose impressions of the neighborhoods that house the geographic and demographic majority of the city are just an accumulation of assumptions and other people's stories. That has consequences.
Most ppl know that Chicago (home of modern urban segregation) is a very segregated place but I don't think most outside Chicago (+many Chicagoans!) understand how the *distances* involved and *depth* of segregation mean most white ppl have ZERO visibility into many Black and Latine neighborhoods

Diane Keaton in Baby Boom was one of my role models.

Realizing now that I loved her more than I knew, because I’m crying over the news. R.I.P.
Diane Keaton has died and it feels like a theft. A luminous talent and an inspiration to all the quirky girls. I beg you to watch the magnificent “Baby Boom” (1987) in her honour and indulge the joy of the truly standout “horse scene”.

I’ve been reverting to DVDs and watching things I can get at my library but not on streaming, and it has been glorious. The physicality of it—I had to flip a disc from side A to side B tonight!
I looked for a Robert Redford film on Canadian Netflix. It had one. And that says everything about streaming platforms and the need for physical media that I think is necessary.

Reminds me of the time I was behind a car at a stoplight, when the driver opened their door, stuck their arm out to place a bag of fast food garbage on the road, closed their door, and drove away. This was over 20 years ago and I still can’t believe it.
Once while driving I saw another motorist dumping a load of empty takeaway boxes outside someone's else house. I followed him and saw where he lived so ever since I've been throwing rubbish outside his house for the last 8 plus years. Extremely satisfying.
