It’s up to all of us to use our economic power and shut it down. Everyone do whatever they can to not spend or work November 25-December 2.

I feel like I have a conversation every other day with someone going through this exact crisis.

We need better options for those aiming to do good work.
Life situations are bleak right now for a lot of people. In tech, the "Venn Diagram" of (1) positive work and (2) making enough money to support your family is increasingly non-overlapping. We all do what we can.

If you travel around your city using public transit, why not print out copies of Megan's "How to Report ICE" in your city and hand those out? It's a simple way to inform people. drive.google.com/drive/folder... - I distributed some to folks on the bus today and they were all grateful to receive them

Never stop telling normies about the ghoulish behavior being committed on their behalf, in this country, by their countrymen and women.

THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS OR KNOW THAT THIS IS HAPPENING.

Re Graham Platner: A lot of folks are just now realizing how much our military’s culture is deeply right-wing and regressive—a place where Nazi and white nationalist iconography are commonplace (even if sometimes not recognized by the troops themselves).

This was literally last year:
Army investigating social media post showing Nazi symbol
The Army opened an investigation after a National Guard unit posted a photo online that contained a symbol worn by Nazi SS troops.

H-2A apple workers in upstate NY tell us farms have gotten rid of piece rate pay, but are still forcing outrageous daily bin requirements. If workers don't meet the requirements, they won't be rehired next year. That's why they want a union to protect them. #WeFeedYou

So, this crucially important state race in Georgia that I told you about? Let me offer you a frustrating update. (cc @hankgreen.bsky.social)

With 14 days to go, Dems are up by a decent margin in early voting, but Kemp -- GA's loathsome governor -- has just dumped *$500K* into TV ads on the race.
Today on Volts: hey listen up! The most important election of the year is happening in Georgia next month. Two seats on the (currently all-GOP) Public Service Commission are up & rising electricity prices are on everyone's mind. This is a bellwether for next year's governor & midterm elections!
Pay attention to the most important political race of 2025
With energy affordability set to dominate national politics, Peter Hubbard and Brionté McCorkle explain why a down-ballot Georgia race is ground zero for the fight.

Trump's private army under development.

ICE and other agencies are bringing high-powered weapons into American cities at an unprecedented rate and amount.

Guns, armor, chemical weapons, guided missile warheads, and explosive components.
ICE’s spending on weaponry has soared more than 700 percent this year
The $71.5 million spent so far has paid for guns and armor, chemical munitions, “guided missile warheads," and "explosive components.”

There are 3 ways for this to go: a) Ds break, b) Rs break, c) Rs do a filibuster carve-out, or d) Trump decides he can appropriate, allocate, and authorize spending entirely w/o Congress and the courts don't stop him.

My current odds:
A) 10%
B) 15%
C) 25%
D) 50%

D is the admins current plan.
So have we all concluded that the government is going to be shut down basically indefinitely?

It’s hard to convey just how much Chicagoans are mobilizing against ICE. Don’t want to downplay the harm, or make it seem like a fair fight. But in neighborhoods across this city, ICE is getting chased by people blowing whistles and shouting. People are running TOWARD ICE to protect their neighbors.

People who missed the “pre-existing conditions” nightmare have no concept how bad that was.

Being diagnosed with anything might mean no coverage & bankruptcy/death decades later. Pre-cancerous lump removed? No cancer coverage for 7 years. Past heart attack? No private coverage, ever. It was deadly.

in its original form the medicaid expansion was basically mandatory and would have very clearly formed the nucleus of a genuinely universal system. and in its neutered form (thanks john roberts) it is still a powerful policy that can be built on and expanded in straightforward ways

I mean this is viscerally upsetting because it's really genuinely him treating the white house like it's his own personal property; he's the king and it's his palace. No other president ever thought like this, even if they were a fucking horrible person, because it goes against our founding creed
I'm not a West Wing obsessed lib or anything but the more I see pictures of this the more fucked up I think it is. It's like he cut off one of the hands of the Lincoln memorial with an angle grinder so he could add a big gun to it.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.
