It's that time of year again. I'm trying not to use Amazon, and I've deleted my meta accounts, so my reach is limited. But any help getting some books for my amazing fourth graders, some of whom I also had in kindergarten, is appreciated.

@prisonculture.bsky.social will you repost please? 💙
It's almost time for a new year. If you would like to help buy books for my students (fabulous fourth graders), you can use this link. Thank you! You'll also be supporting my favorite books store @spokeandwordbooks.bsky.social #BookSky #EduSky

Over the last 20 years, we have gotten a comp day on the Friday of conference for two evenings of conferences. This year, our comp day was today…3 weeks later. I’m enjoying a 4 day weekend, but I would have preferred that Friday off. Conference week was exhausting!

Pizza Beans 2.0! Hearty chickpeas, sausage, and kale are simmered in a spicy tomato sauce then finished with melted and blistered mozzarella and pecorino. We like to scoop it onto garlic bread.

It's the beginning of vinyl and knitting season. Tonight, we are starting with Simon and Garfunkel's Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme while I work on knitting a shrug I started last winter.

We've finished the first month of school. Of course there have been ups and downs, but I can feel a good year forming. We have new admin, and that is making a big difference.

Here's to a great year!

Beaver fans, get yourself some Dippin' Dots at the game this evening to support Corvallis High School athletic programs. Parents are also serving beer and Bloody Marys to raise money for the programs. #gobeavs

Back to School Night ✅

24 of 26 fourth graders and their adults came. Several former students came by to say hello. Two boys exchanged bff necklaces and were so excited. I chatted about Travis and Taylor.

It’s going to be a great year! But, I am TIRED!

A few more books arrived today. I don't know who sent them, but if it was you, thanks so much! @mattholm.bsky.social @sarahweeks.bsky.social @amynoelleparks.bsky.social, thank you for writing awesome books!

Thanks again @prisonculture.bsky.social for sharing my list!

Wow! Thank you so much @prisonculture.bsky.social for promoting my list. The books have started rolling in, and I can't wait to share them with my new students. All of the donations were anonymous, but if you sent something, thank you so much!

Today, I met my fear of ladders head on and washed the upper windows. It wasn’t terrible, and they look so much better!

Pro tip: If it holds water and doesn't leak, you're good. You don't need a new one.
The best reusable bottle is the one you already have. No one is saving any plastic waste if they keep buying new damn fashion bottles!
I tested 42 water bottles to find the best for leaks, looks and sustainability: here are my favourites

If you get a letter from the school board demanding you pay extra for your disabled child’s public school education, contact a Special Education attorney IMMEDIATELY.

This is a flagrant violation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act signed into law in 1993.

WILDLY illegal.
Ohio parents of kids with disabilities are receiving letters from the school board demanding they pay “extra” for their disabled children.

This is ableism and discrimination at its finest.

They weren’t even given adequate warning. Just 17 days to pay up.

I started high school in 1990 and graduated from college in 1998. I believe the nineties had the best music across the board of any decade.

I've been on an R&B kick lately and Janet, Maxwell, SWV, Toni, and D'Angelo all hold up.

At this time, I want most people to find pockets of joy where they can. It's the only way we're going to survive.

Some, I only want to find legos under bare feet, their ice cream to fall on the sidewalk when they are ready to take their first lick, and their popcorn to never be buttery or salty.
I saw someone genuinely irritated that Taylor Swift fans are having some moments of joy these last couple of days despite the horrors of the world, I want to reassure that person that when the Taylor Swift fans are done having their joy the horrors will still be there, don't worry, they can catch up

After forty years, I’d gotten this song out of my head. And then this….
Kookaburra sitting on the old gum tree
Merry merry queen of the bush is she
Trans kookaburra, trans kookaburra,
Gay your life must be

I cannot be calm about this!!!!!
my daughter came home from her first day of 10th grade and said that her history teacher told her that if she refuses to use AI for assignments, she has to cite her sources.

i asked how she’d cite it if she used AI, and she said, that’s not required.

i’m still internally fuming up about this.
