I am removed from basically all drama, and...it's legit giving me homesickness. I feel alienated from my community. Haven't been in a knife fight in years.

Honestly, it has to be a weird time to be a figure in pop culture due the president being Literally The Worst. Like, Elmo can say sharing is good and somebody in his X mentions will say “Elmo, you rotten son of a bitch. This goes against everything President Trump stands for.” And that’s not wrong.

Next time somebody tries to get me to justify the existence of the humanities, I’ll just point out how for the past two Super Bowls we’ve all jumped online and engaged in collective semiotics and hermeneutics of the half-time show as text.

it's genuinely kind of funny to imagine trump watching that. like. does he even recognize the concepts being presented, of people having a culture, being proud of it, feeling joy together. how much can he even comprehend that

It does really hit you that American artists of color continue to make these aesthetically incredible, thematically rich works of art and the white supremacists that rule this country are just complete dullards

Feel bad for my patriot fan friends but this is a good omen for society

I'm hardly the first person to note this, but it's enormously instructive that our President and his followers saw the message "THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE" and understood it, correctly, as an attack on them
What a moment.

It would take, no shit, like a literal war to get this, though. This single change would undo the entire scam of the idea that businesses just *have* to behave like sociopaths, when the reality is that they choose to. The legal threat to keep stragglers in line is a fig leaf. They like it this way.
So much of our problems could be solved if we could pass a law stipulating that failure to maximize profits shall no longer be a cause of action.

Democrats are the party of love.
Republicans are the party of hate.

If the current Dems can't run on that, defenestrate them.

America covering up sexual violence while shoring up the systems which perpetuate it is the norm, but we usually at least pay lip service to some idea of safety from sexual brutalization

I'm reminded of the Third Servile Rebellion, the famous Spartacus one.

The escaped slaves formed a community lasting 3 years until their final defeat.

In it they banned sexual violence, and money. They had all been subject to mechanisms of control that depended on these.

Money can be accumulated.
the secret truth is that the goal of a wealth tax isn't really to raise money. the US can literally print money.

the goal of a wealth tax is to prevent massive accumulations of wealth which destroy democracy. 1
