My daughter bought me Robin Jarvis’ Deptford Mice trilogy for Christmas. Read them to death when I was her age. They have just been released in a lovely new edition for 2025. Am absolutely loving diving back in but preparing myself emotionally for Book 3!

Really interesting thread. Have observed this phenomenon as a southern teacher in Yorkshire but also, more depressingly, when working with trainee teachers who find they have many of these issues of pupils / parents / teachers saying they don’t understand them.

Grading and googling hallucinated citations, as one does nowadays, and now that LLMs have been around for a while, I've discovered new horrors: hallucinated journals are now appearing in Google Scholar with dozens of citations bc so many people are citing these fake things
