Talked to a Somali man today who said his mosque last night was surrounded by neighbors ready to protect them against ICE if needed. Made me feel proud to live in this city.

How much more in your face can it be?

"Why are you asking me for my paperwork?"
"Because of your accent."
"You have an accent too."
"Where were you born sir?"
"Where were you born at?"
"Put your hands behind your back."

DHS employees entered our store this afternoon and served us a Notice of Inspection, demanding copies of I9 forms for each employee.

In 27 years as shopkeepers, we have never been subjected to this type of investigation.

A second man says he was blinded by ICE agents shooting a projectile at a protest in Santa Ana. Britain Rodriguez, 31, a resident of Orange County, said he was standing at the bottom of a set up steps when federal officers above opened fire, hitting him in the eye.

For giving, this is a very good resource for mutual aid orgs, personal fundraisers, and nonprofit/community org donations.

Besides that, the best thing you can do is prepare your own communities. If it can happen here or Lewiston, Maine, it can happen anywhere.

This story is not getting enough attention.

A St. Paul resident says federal officers knocked on her door and asked her to identify Hmong and Asian households in her North End neighborhood last week.

Some more figures about ICE's presence in Minnesota:

The Pew Research Center estimated in 2023 that Minnesota is home to 130,000 immigrants without legal status — less than 1% of the nation’s total.

About 9% of ICE’s 22,000 personnel are currently in Minnesota.

Latest on the federal forces in Minnesota from me and my colleague Jeff Hargarten:

There are now more federal immigration agents in MN than the 10 largest Twin Cities police departments combined.

9% of ICE is in MN right now, even though MN has less than 1% of the nation's undocumented immigrants.
Are 3,000 ICE agents ‘disproportionate’ to Twin Cities police forces?
Their presence is bigger than the 10 largest metro police departments combined.

This is 10th-grader Arnoldo Bazan.

A citizen.

Immigration agents grabbed him and put him in a chokehold.

"We're from the United States bro!' he screamed.

Agents took and sold his phone

And when he finally got home hours later, his shirt was ripped, he neck had angry, red welts, and he sobbed.

Secretary Noem’s unlawfulness and dangerous leadership can't be ignored.

We owe it to our democracy to persist, despite the seemingly overwhelming odds against us.
