That tech oligarchs are noisy and incensed about the remote possibility of a wealth tax and utterly silent about the murder of a man who was only using the phone they invented to chronicle the thuggish government goon squads should tell you everything about these desiccated souls.

Meanjin has (had 😭) two - TWO - part time staff members.

I'd be willing to bet my dinner that the cost of supporting Meanjin is less than what a single top 15 executive at Uni Melb makes in a year

It’s been a year since my father passed. Today I noticed an older man in a cafe that looked so much like him. I watched the man drink a coffee and eat something sweet.
He looked out over the ocean. I strained to see him as he left through the crowd. Unsure whether that felt like hello, or goodbye.

Really wonderful piece. It’s so important to share these stories, to have your experiences heard but also so people can begin to learn.

I’m just a boy, standing in front of a streaming service, asking how they did that final shot of Working Girl.

Thing about Dutton’s backflip on the sackings/WFH; Libs seem surprised these ideas had any impact, let alone a negative one. Similarly taken aback that the retreat would have weight.

At no point have they treated these ideas as real policies, and assumed voters might too.

This is an election.

SCOOP: YouTube removes 'gender identity' from hate speech policy. "YouTube quietly removing ‘gender identity and expression’ from its list of protected groups is a major radical shift away from best practices in the field of trust and safety."

Was late to work this morning because I was sitting in my car sobbing about the angler fish seeing the sun before she died. It’s made me cry for a week.

This world is so beautiful and so precious and we’ve handed so much of its future over to billionaires who will never be rich enough

I can’t really be bothered explaining what I mean by this but the best comparison I have for watching the US government right now is Gremlins 2. It’s all Gremlins 2.

I’ve been trying to put my finger on something similar, a feeling I’ve had for the last few years. This article speaks to it. It’s grief. I’ve found myself grieving for the possibilities that era seemed to offered creatives and writers, now gone, replaced with techno feudalism and AI garbage.
“The death of ‘websites’ and outlets that value true creativity and diversity in coverage — largely at the whims of ghoulish executives and private equity vulturism — has created in me a stinging grief that I cannot seem to shake.” lindseyadler.substack.com/p/ten-years-...

Lynch created new ways to see our world and made it all look effortless and cool. He was an incredible wordsmith, speaking in his own sardonic beat poetry. Even his statement about emphysema made the smoking that was killing him sound mythic. Don’t be like him. Do yourself with the same easy genius.

No nation state is above criticism. You can criticise Israel's actions and policies without it being anti-semitic. It does not make Jewish people safer by conflating criticism of Israel with anti-semitism.

Been some back and forth on Simon Birmingham’s exit and the value of a moderate Liberal. In 2022 he made space to hear queer voices during the Religious Discrimination debate. He didn’t have to listen to LGBTQIA+ communities, but he did, and that mattered.

How do I talk about death to my children? Christianity, doubt and neurodivergence - ABC Religion & Ethics
I am on the autism spectrum, and we are a neurodivergent family. After the death of my father, I want to share something about loss with my children that I know to be true.
