I'm celebrating #PrideMonth with my novels, all of which feature characters breaking free from the shame they’ve been made to feel, embracing their difference, learning to love their true selves and moving towards a place of pride. So there's never been a better time to read them! ❤️🏳️‍🌈❤️

I’m so proud to have gone on TV to share my story about being late diagnosed autistic with the wonderful Lorraine Kelly. And I was thrilled to talk about the positives of my condition. Thanks to Lorraine for being an open and compassionate interviewer. And if anyone missed it, it’s on ITV catch-up!

@mattcainwriter.bsky.social. I really enjoyed reading this whilst sat back at home waiting for my little sister to give birth. Love hearing about #QueerManchester and #CanalStreet. #QueerLit #GayLit

This is possibly the most important piece of journalism I’ll ever write. At the age of 50, I was diagnosed autistic. Please read my story and share it so others don’t have to wait so long to understand who they are ❤️

I thought it was being gay that made my life so difficult. Then, at 50, I got an eye-opening diagnosis …
I spent far too many years lonely and angry, thanks to schoolmates who called me ‘weird’ and bosses who dismissed me as ‘hysterical’. But was it my sexuality that put their backs up – or the autism I ...

To celebrate LGBT+ History Month, I’m posting this article I wrote for the Guardian about the importance of reclaiming our queer history after years of erasure. Because we’ve always been here and we’ve always made a contribution! Please share!

I wasn’t sure about LOOT when I first started watching as it seemed a bit gentle and slow. But I soon got into it, mainly thanks to the brilliance of the supporting cast. I love Sofia and Arthur but most of all I love HOWARD! I’m about to start season 2 - is it just as good? Is anyone else a fan?

When I wrote #AlbertEntwistle, people commented on its similarities with a book called #AManCalledOve but I’d never read it! This week I watched the film version and loved it. As tears welled in my eyes, I felt proud to have written a book that people think has the same spirit ❤️

This film is a lovely study of the relationship between two very different characters and both lead performances are tremendous. It’s a quiet, gentle film so won’t change your life but it might make you a little bit more compassionate and understanding. I really enjoyed it ❤️

I’m thrilled to be on the jury for this year’s Nibbies! I’ll be judging retailer of the year, independent bookshop of the year and library of the year. It’s a wonderful opportunity to champion all those booksellers and librarians who support great work and get it out to readers!

As I've picked up lots of new followers, I thought I'd re-introduce my books. I write heartwarming, uplifting novels about self-discovery, self-acceptance and self-love, about characters breaking free from expectation or oppression to blossom into their best, truest self…

Seeing as I’m accepting an MBE it’s only right I educate myself on the British Empire. And what better way than by reading #Empireland by @sathnam.bsky.social I thought I knew the headlines of history but am flabbergasted by the sheer scale of the horrors. Everyone should read this book!

I finally got round to watching this doc and it’s brilliant! Director Michael Ogden hones in on just the right subjects and explores Madonna’s coming of age as an artist with intelligence and respect. If you need to rev up your drive this uninspiring January, here’s the answer!

How dreary and dull and unexciting is January? I’m sending solidarity to anyone who’s struggling to find their sparkle this month. I wonder how the new year and the chance of a fresh start hits differently when you live in the southern hemisphere and there are blue skies and sunshine?
