Dan Hind on democratising the BBC: 'An institution that began life as a private company and became a chartered corporation must now become a public service cooperative.'

“The BBC remains structurally bound to a concept of the political that is becoming intensely unpopular” This is great by Dan Hind. Tragic he clings to the Nazi X open.substack.com/pub/abolishw...
Abolish the BBC?
The real crisis for the broadcaster is the rise of US-based digital media and the growing need for a democratic media

Helpful as ever, and here it Mitch McConnell spelling out Trump's role, edition.cnn.com/videos/polit... (he also specifically described it as a "violent insurrection" whose purpose was to prevent the peaceful handover of power. www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_Ld...)

Great thread👇
British "patriots" assaulting the BBC to gain approval from American fascists is just fucking weird on a deep level.

I take this back! Trevor Philips takeaway at the end shows he was listening and impressed
This is a great interview worth watching in full, the laziness and disinterest of Philips is extraordinarily revealing of the complacency of those who think they 'know how to govern'
Trevor Philips, "What is the implication of the white poppy?"

Zack Polanski, "The white poppy began after WWI, mainly from women's groups, who talked about peace and antifascism"

"So on the same day we remember the fallen, it's also about looking to the future and saying, we want a world of peace"

With a little help from Bob Dylan…
Why does Bob Dylan’s masterpiece, ‘The Times They Are A-Changin’, keep playing in Paul Connew’s head as he tries to review the state of Britain’s political, media and public opinion landscape?

If someone had told me a year ago, that this could happen in the UK I wouldn't have believed it.

Now it's all happening very fast. Even if you consider Cummings as the 'career psychopath' he always was, this is a dangerous new level.
Dominic Cummings has this racialised take on David Lammy

There is an increasingly prevalent kneejerk online rightwing trait to call the presence of any black or Asian person a diversity hire

A recommended read. It might seem like kreminology of the fringes of US right-wing politics but it’s really about how and why an avant-garde is now the mainstream. This will affect UK politics where the extreme is also now in the ascendant using similar methods.

Who is writing the budget?
Today, I revealed that City lobbyists have been seconded into the Treasury under the Labour Party, and that the Treasury wouldn’t tell me whether they are ‘helping’ write Rachel Reeves’ budget: open.substack.com/pub/abolishw...
REVEALED: Labour let City lobbyists work in Treasury
The Treasury didn't answer questions about whether lobbyists for the banking industry seconded into it are helping write this month's budget.
