No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

GOP fast tracks monster voter suppression bill that could disenfranchise millions by requiring proof of citizenship at polls
In the past few weeks, passing the legislation has been a unifying rally cry for Republicans, a welcome distraction from the party’s cratering public opinion polls.

I refused.

Important update: a federal judge has ruled that Russ Vought & OMB were breaking the law & must tell the public exactly how they are spending (or not spending) funds appropriated by Congress.

I wrote this law years ago to ensure transparency and accountability.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

pretty wild statement re: Republican Chris Madel drop from race for MN governor:

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

ICE attacked an observer after they tailed a group of clergy on a spiritual pilgrimage.

Our digital producer @sam.vp just so happened to be with the clergy on their journey. He spoke with the observer who was attacked and others who witnessed the assault.

An important one to watch. Each element is critical. ICE tailing clergy. Fact that ICE declared driving *behind* ICE “obstruction.” White people; ICE still went to violence in 30 seconds; but community saved them. This cld have been another murder; community intervened.

Chillingly, the whistleblower says that ICE trainers were directed (no paper trail?) to train all of ICE's new recruits that these administrative warrants authorize breaking into peoples' homes, even though DHS's own training materials still make clear that's illegal!

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

US consumers and importers absorbed 96% of tariff costs. Rather than acting as a tax on foreign producers, the tariffs functioned as a consumption tax on Americans. $200 bil in additional 2025 U.S. tariff revenue “was paid almost exclusively by Americans.”

Nice to see NYTimes provide a forthright description of Trump's own stated motivations for invading Greenland, rather than sane-washing it, but this shouldn't just be "analysis." Every story should bluntly state that Trump's reasons are personal and delusional.

This is demonstrably false. We have seen the video and heard the audio of ICE forcibly entering homes without warrants.

Of ICE randomly pushing people who were simply standing on the sidewalk observing.

None of that is legal.
Q: Are you ok with federal agents & officers violating people's 4th Amendment rights by asking for papers without reasonable suspicion?

NOEM: Every single action our ICE officers take is according to the law and following protocols that we have used for years. They are doing everything correctly

Not sure who needs to hear this, but the Insurrection Act isn’t the same as “martial law.” It authorizes the molitary to engage in civil law enforcement. And not clear that even then, whether they can enforce state criminal laws

When you succumb to the cynicism, you are helping Trump. He wants you to think that all is lost, that he is all powerful, and that there is nothing we can do.

The fight for democracy is hard, but it is worth having. We have shown we can stand tall. We have shown we can win.
Many of you have become drama-addicted doomers, and you seem to think it's important for the rest of us to join you.

Yes, things are bad. But change is within our power. Grow up. Act like sober, responsible adults in a democracy instead of cynical, all-is-lost teenagers.

Now get off my lawn.
