When were you at your most optimistic as an adult?

For me, it was the weekend after Labour won in 1997 and the UK won Eurovision.
The sun shone and I thought the world was going to be a better place.
(Obviously, my hopes were dashed, but for a brief moment there was hope.)

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has confirmed an additional £2.2 billion in defence funding for the next financial year, describing the measure as a “downpayment” on the Government’s plan to increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027.

Apparently asking employers (not all) to pay an extra 1.2% on NI will mean the end of the world as we know it but the Tories incompetence which raised mortgage repayments, 11% inflation, stagnating economy and underfunding services was just fine, who knew.

Among the other stuff announced by Starmer this morning, NHS waiting lists have fallen again, for the 5th month in a row.

That's over winter, when it's normal to expect the extra pressure to lead to longer waiting lists.
