This is absolutely correct AND teachers are bombarded with the message that if a parent's child does not like school or finds it boring, it's a problem for the teacher to fix.
It so often seems that the real challenge at hand is convincing parents their child is a child; nothing more, nothing less.

I say this extremely seriously: one of the main skills children have to learn to be adults is to do things they *don't* find interesting. This is both because many necessary things in life are boring and because sometimes interesting things take time and effort first.

One of my (semi) hot takes is that most AI hacking can be avoided by better learning design. The assessments & practices shared here aren’t reactionary countermeasures, they’re fantastic examples of teaching built on the 5Es of sensemaking (i.e. the principles that make human cognition unique).

I spent Saturday morning at an incredibly well attended meeting of Good Neighbors Getting it Done in Western New York, a local affiliate of Trouble Nation and @indivisible.org They're dedicated to defending democracy and elevating the voices of the most vulnerable members of our community.

I'm running for town council in a fairly red community and have been heartened by the number of my neighbors who just want to be good neighbors.
Learning, writing, and work is good distraction and salve right now. I am dedicating every one of my Sunday newsletters in March to unpacking the process I use to improve learning outcomes and performance in K-12 ELA/English classrooms. This week's update to Things I Taught 8th Graders About Nazis focuses on the consolidation of power and the frightening similarities between Trump's new Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies Executive Order and the Enabling Act, which secured Hitler's dictatorship.
Nawal's scholarship and savvy are making me think differently and better about how NYS schools might design and bring their Portraits of Graduates to life in our schools. I've learned much through my partnership with pilot schools this year. More to come. Let's follow Nawal's lead, friends.
I’m so proud of the work I do alongside LA + OC educators, school leaders and families. TY to the Cotsen Foundation for ongoing partnership and dedication to the art of teaching, especially in family engagement. Launched another series of PL sessions before moving into labsites next.
