‘However, the removal of the EBacc measure, coupled with the Government’s proposed changes to Progress 8, puts the humanities in direct competition with each other and with the arts.’ Glad to see the HA aligning with @britishacademy.bsky.social on this: humanities AND arts, not either/or, surely?
The Government have published the Curriculum and Assessment Review report and their own response. We have a short statement expressing our views.

Can I have an inquiry as well over the photocopier getting jammed, somebody else being in the toilet when I was in a rush and then the projector remote control needing a new battery, all in the build up to one lesson the other day? Must be sabotage.

Student perceptions of history
We’re inviting GCSE and A-level students to take part in a quick survey about their views on history and future careers. By sharing their perspectives, students will help shape more relevant, inspiring support for careers linked to history.

Your annual reminder that some have always vehemently opposed school history which encourages young people to develop their own ideas about the past and see history as a form of knowledge. It just reminds me though how important the changes @1972shp.bsky.social has brought have been! #historyteacher

Finally hit full in the face with Chat GPT generated final essays in one of my classes. I thought I had proofed things by requiring only sources from inside my course modules, citations, quotes, etc. but am seeing hallucinated citations (for book titles that don't exist). Unrelievedly depressing.

I've been saying to HE people for the last four years that they're going to have to go back to written exams and I always get a look that I've learnt means "do you have any idea how much of a faff/expense that is"?
I suspect ChatGPT will kill MOOCs and further raise demand for elite (and elitist) higher education with tutorials and all kinds of expensive labor that university administrators will hate.
I feel like in-person instruction still has lots of pedagogical tools to help kids learn. 25 years later I remember the questions I muffed in front of class when I got called on.

But online instruction feels incredibly cooked (and as others have reported AI is even creating fake students).

Great article from @samgibbs.bsky.social. Restriction of teacher autonomy & lowering of expectations (by some) for #ITT students to deliverers of 100% preplanned materials is hugely problematic for retention & succession planning.
