Trump's peace plan for Ukraine in full:

1) Ukraine concedes to all Russian demands.

2) That's it.

From an article in today's Financial Times. Such an obvious statement of fact. It's hard to understand why direct public investment in social rent housing - so successful for decades - is now unthinkable.

There is abundant evidence in the social science literature that (a) social norms matter (b) political elites play an important role in setting and reinforcing social norms (c) that 'unexpected' rhetoric behaviour (e.g. centre left sounding intolerant) has more powerful corrosive effect on norms.

The Danish Social Democrats are currently on course for their worst election result since at least the Second World War, despite their brand of far-right accommodationism being touted as a blueprint for other centre-left parties.

We absolutely need immigration controls. And where those controls decide to grant asylum, we should welcome and integrate, not create perpetual limbo and alienation.

The rhetoric around these reforms encourages the same culture of divisiveness that sees racism and abuse growing in our communities.

It is certainly a bold strategy to put this record to put in front of members in any future leadership bid.
Shabana Mahmood on the BBC this morning talking about desperate people fleeing war and persecution as being given a "golden ticket" and "handouts" and saying she's got a "moral mission" to take them away from them

Labour's strategy of telling its supporters to back Reform-style policies, or get a Reform Government, is the politics of the protection racket and it is not going to work

If you put Trump, Russia and Farage in one corner of a boxing ring, it doesn't take much effort to understand that whoever is in the other corner is almost certainly worth defending.

Russian propaganda has different layers regarding the channels, intensity, and quality of the narratives it uses.

Usually, the public and even many "experts" see only a limited range of what is happening, or they refuse to see more because they are even part of it. 🧵

Why this is crucial:

Only if we understand the different layers of how Russian propaganda tackles us are we able to recognize the full spectrum of attacks against our societies. Overt, blatant propaganda also has the effect that we do not recognize subtle influence.

only in the small print of this article do they make clear that the pensioners paying an extra £2,500 of tax would have to have
“earnings over £125,140”

I know many pensioners are asset rich but how many have income at that level?

As Sultana and co know very well, it is perfectly possible to support a people's struggle for national freedom while opposing the govt or political leadership currently at the head of that struggle. They do not apply this here for a simple reason - they do not support Ukraine.
