Again, all of this talk about talks is futile bullshit as long as there is no basis for compromise between EU/UK/UA Europeans and Russia

As long as Putin can't accept that Russia can't control all Ukraine there is no such basis for a productive process with sustainable outcomes

The "WE MUST DIALOGUE" crowd never quite explain the concrete process and sustainable outcomes dialogue should serve.

Treating dialogue as an end in itself is how Europe got in this mess in the first place.

You wanna talk about a crisis of masculinity? I have been adamant that one does not exisit, at least within the framing of the current moment.

But thinking about it some more has led me to believe we do have a crisis of masculinity. Except it goes back decades-to WW2.

The fact that Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine bottoms out FT's new geopolitical mood index really shows how "not with the times" Russia's hostility has been, even amidst the general bleakness of the past decade; worse than 9/11, worse than Gulf War, etc.

Whenever I mention AI on here, I am encouraged to note the difference between AI in the form of large language models (LLMs), which everyone hates, and AI in the form of machine learning (ML), which everyone seems to feel is just fine.

Question: is there a clear distinction or is it a spectrum?

NEW: ProPublica examined months of Fox News’ coverage and reviewed over 700 videos posted on social media.

The network used five-year-old footage, mislabeled other dates and implied footage from elsewhere was in Portland.
“Riots Raging”: The Misleading Story Fox News Told About Portland Before Trump Sent Troops
After reviewing coverage from the network and hours of social media videos that preceded Trump’s decision, ProPublica found that Fox’s portrayal of “Portland rioters” routinely instigating violence was misleading.

The DOGE cuts seemed to focus on tax teams that pursued enforcement of high income earners. The IRS had been building up enforcement on this area because most of the tax gap is driven by higher earners. Lax enforcement could cost hundreds of billions. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/five-quest...

It is this lack of accountability, dating back to Reagan, that has paved the way for Trump’s impunity.

When justice is not rendered, it becomes useless.

Russia has lost more dead in Ukraine than the US did in the Pacific in WW2, and maybe already more than the US did in WW2 overall (Pacific + Europe).

Mass protest, organizing, & voting are great. But Democrats (& democrats) need to be ready to make major institutional changes once the authoritarians are defeated. Otherwise, all the policies will again fail in the Senate & SCOTUS & everyone will get mad at Democrats again & the cycle will renew.
🧵 Democrats need to stop promising sweeping policies like this w/o ever discussing <institutional> reform. There was <no way> any of this was going to pass the Senate. It's no wonder voters get disillusioned. You promise them magical 🦄 & can't deliver. The <platform> needs to be institutional reform
Biden promised affordable childcare, universal paid family leave, higher minimum wages, free community college, and more. Those policies would disproportionately benefit women, especially those who make too much to qualify for existing programs but not enough to easily afford paid support. 2/
