One pernicious step after another, Bezos encroached on the Post editorial policy. Today he seized it fully. The old Washington Post is gone. I'll never write for it again as long as he's the owner.

He seems more repellant by the day. The Post staff is working its butt off and he's planning to axe half of them while hobnobbing in Europe. Hard to overstate how despicable he is and how much everyone stll there misses Don Graham.
So glad he’s having a nice time.

Agree. Outrageous what he has done to a once great newspaper.

My @washingtonpost.com colleagues worked round the clock this weekend to expose the truth of what's happening in Minneapolis and bring urgent weather news to millions facing dangerous cold and snow.

The rest of the world should absolutely boycott the World Cup and boycott the Olympics. At minimum.

Agree.

No one outside the US, who has a choice, should be enabling a lawless and lying regime. Which has become a threat to its own people and the entire world.

(Speaking as an American patriot.)
If you're living somewhere outside the USA, one thing you can do is pressure your leaders to boycott World Cup and Olympic events here.

Agree.
Saw the movie Nuremberg last night.

Very much worth seeing. IMO especially at this moment, especially for Americans.

(Aware that reviews are positive though mixed. For me, what is strong about it outweighs what isn't.)

This is *the* thing no author can abide: An editor inserting a change **after** writer has seen "final proof" etc.

A late update in a breaking news story? Sure. But columns, reviews, features, magazine pieces... No.

Happened to me once. Refused to work with that editor ever again.
I wrote book reviews for a while for the WSJ well over a decade ago, and Bari Weis was my editor. One of her special tricks was to try to insert a sharp rightward slant into my essays *after* it had been copy edited, as a way of slipping her viewpoint in at the last minute.

This makes me ill -- and furious. American Gestapo. Good God.
Its not that the media is not covering what is happening, but it does feel like the military occupation of an American city should be treated as a national crisis.
A video of ICE agents conducting door-to-door searches today in Minneapolis

The homeowner requests a warrant repeatedly, is told they don't require one, then is told they're getting it, then the agents storm in anyway

They also point a taser at her to try and disrupt filming

Perfect on both counts @jfallows.bsky.social . Kelly brilliant retort echoing the ad that inspired me to write a book.
This is superb, from Sen. Kelly.
Please watch.

Insider note: First sentence of Kelly's presentation is uncannily powerful echo of my favorite TV ad ever. "Imported from Detroit," 15 yrs ago

Serendipity? Embedded memory by Kelly people? Perfect for both.
