The Mandelson/ Epstein doc “mystery”.

More from @danneidle.bsky.social

2 UK🇬🇧 Gov confidential cabinet/ Prime Minister communications seem to have ended up in Epstein’s email account seconds or minutes after being sent to 🇬🇧 Gov accounts.

Much like the White House, the Kennedy Center does not belong to the president and he doesn't get to just do with it as he pleases.

The time to seek every kind of injunction imaginable is now, unless you want the view from the Watergate to look like the East Wing, too

Hope we learned that lesson!

The Utah governor just signed a bill to expand his state's supreme court by two seats.

Conservatives have been angry at a series of judicial rulings, including one that safeguarded direct democracy in 2024 & one that struck down their gerrymander. 1st step of their retaliation.

My guess is that there will be very little pushback against Governor Cox for this, and that as he positions himself for 2028, he will do so by presenting himself as the moderate, sane voice of the GOP. But this is straightforwardly undermining a check on more radical policymaking.

"Since 9/11, the culture of ICE and CBP has meant that the agencies have been what you might call a fascist-secret-police-in-waiting, troubled agencies simply waiting for an ambitious would-be authoritarian."-Graff
I testified Friday before Gov. Pritzker's commission studying abuses of ICE and CBP and tried to explain how the agencies went so far off track. It's actually way worse than I ever realized. Please read and share my testimony as Congress considers reform: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/accountabi...
Accountability for ICE and CBP
However bad you think the corruption and misconduct at ICE and CBP is — the reality is far far worse.

Obviously ICE should not stage anywhere outside the seventh circle of hell, but of ALL the public spaces in Minneapolis, Powderhorn is an especially infuriating choice.

That's where we celebrate May Day and make art sleds. It's where my high school ski team practiced. It is The People's Park.

Infuriating and honestly, they must know the significance of this park in particular as a place of joyful, inclusive gatherings that celebrate our neighbors through puppets, sleds, signs, and songs.

Powderhorn is the South Side at its very best.
This morning, federal agents staged at the Powderhorn Park Recreation Center lot and began to throw chemical irritants at observers. They also kidnapped an observer. Our parks are meant for our children, youth, and neighbors. They should never be militarized zones meant to separate families. 1/

DOJ has broken the social contract under which they deserved a degree of deference.

Serve the public and enforce the law, then courts, lawyers, and the people grant the presumption DOJ is trying to do that.

The Trump DOJ, in words and actions, rejects that in favor of lies and aiding lawbreaking.
STEPHANOPOULOS: The indictments of Comey and James came after Trump explicitly said they're 'guilty as hell.'

BLANCHE: If you're a DOJ prosecutor, you're expected to effectuate this administration's priorities. You're reading a small part of a Truth.

For too long state Dem parties in the south have ceded elections and allowed them to be uncontested - it was a big part of the reason I burned out hard on electoral organizing when I lived in Virginia.

Very good piece by @jburnmurdoch.ft.com....

The US under Trump 2.0 has shifted towards authoritarianism as record speed but unlike other examples (e.g. Putin, Orban) it's happened by bypassing institutions rather than permanently corrupting them...

How steep is Trump’s democratic backsliding?
