My main takeaway from the first episode of Starfleet Academy is that Holly Hunter remains a great actress and seems poised to be able to carry the series through the inevitably growing pains of a new show, much like Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, and Kate Mulgrew did before her.

Me: I haven't seen Avatar since 2009. I should keep an open mind!

James Cameron: Here's our giant drip of a protagonist delivering the world's most generic voiceover monologue while the other stock characters just announce the movie's ideas to the audience. Also the Na'vi subtitles are in Papyrus.

By chance, I watched episodes of classic Doctor Who and Rick & Morty in the same day. Somehow I didn't clock the parallels between them until now! They Both feature an eccentric (arguably reckless) grandparent taking their comparatively meek and excitable grandchild on dimension-hopping adventures.

Building a website on angelfire that I could link to in my AIM profile to get around the program's character limits.
Without revealing your actual age, what's something you remember that if you told a younger person they wouldn't understand?

When will enough be enough? When will the horrors visited upon our friends and neighbors inflicted in the name of the American people become so intolerable that no one with even half a soul can bear to support them any longer? When will we demand something better than this endless craven horrorshow?

I hadn't watched Edward Scissorhands in at least 20 years, and on rewatch, I was struck by how clearly the film is an allegory for disability and how society responds to it. I liked it that much more as an adult. So many striking moments of beautty, empathy, and heartache. Maybe Tim Burton's best?

I walked into 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' half-expecting to hate it. Instead, I ended up kinda loving it?

The stellar production design captures Seuss' whimsy. The film has a soft strain of subversion that I like. And Jim Carrey's giving his all to a role he was born to play. Grinchy goodness!

The Director of White Christmas: So hey, Danny Kaye is a little flouncey for general audiences in 1954. Can the dance department send anyone to take a little of the heat off him?

I had some idea what to expect going in, but nobody tells you how utterly romantic Paradise Lost is. I'm hard-pressed to think of a more sumptuous or lyrical rendition of married love in the western canon than the way John Milton depicts Adam and Eve within Eden.

I'm new to the series. Is there any Doctor Who lore that covers whether the TARDIS is made out of giant legos?

I both get where this sentiment is coming from and would push back against it a little bit. Not everyone has the articulate inner monologue of a Jane Austen character. But everyone has reasons why they do the things they do and are the way they are, even if they never bother to examine those reasons
The older I get, the more I think fiction (which I love) has damaged our ability to judge people. We assume intricate interiority, wheels within wheels, because that’s what drives good plots. The truth is that what someone says and does on the surface is usually exactly who they are.

Do you ever stop and think how odd it is that we have to lick envelopes to seal them? It makes total sense as a way to activate the adhesive and all that. But it's like, "Hello friend! Here's a message of holiday cheer for you! It...comes with a teeny bit of my saliva."

We're all freaks, I tell ya.

Rob Reiner didn't just make great movies. He made different *kinds* of great movies. His best films differ wildly in tone and style but not in quality. Everything from Princess Bride to Spinal Tap came with a palpable humanity, no matter the tack or genre. What a legacy! May his memory be a blessing

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.
