one thing they don't tell you about publishing a novel is people will constantly ask you what you've been reading lately. And every time your mind will be utterly blank, as if you have never read a book in your life

many of us agree that watching phone videos at full volume in public is antisocial behavior, but to me that doesn’t go far enough. watching phone videos every single time you have a few minutes to kill is antisocial in its own right even if the volume is always courteously muted
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

Diane Keaton’s ability to show you a character’s vulnerability was as striking as her gift for showing you what can lie beneath such sensitivity, including neediness at its rawest and most acutely exposed, our chief film critic Manohla Dargis writes.
Often Overlooked, Diane Keaton Was Essential to ‘The Godfather’ Saga
The star’s emotional transparency and expressive eyes helped us see the Corleones as both fascinating and repellent, just as her character did.

In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”

There is a way to lose and it’s to be very bad at it, same as any puzzle. Context: I know this because I am playing against the clock and yes I am going to beat the clock eventually
Pips is a logic puzzle, and there’s no way to lose. It's soothing and satisfying when you get the pieces set just right. Play it here: nyti.ms/4pt9Uu3

We spent two years compiling THE PUB. It's lovingly assembled with a star selection of authors from Katy Hessel to John Banville. It's by far the best thing we've ever done - please support us by purchasing a copy here:

I finished reading A Goat's Song, a novel I've been reading since early May. Stunned by it. There are beautiful, romantic scenes that will stay with me for a long time, ones I wish I'd written myself. Also scenes of utter darkness, grim and horrible drink, and I wish I'd written them too

ChatGPT: Apologies. I didn't realise when recommending Pagliacci's epic show to cure your depression that you were the genius himself. I'm impressed! With regards to your initial question, I can recommend seeing the Great Clown Pagliacci.
