you can & should use a thesaurus as long as you know what the subtle distinctions between words are, or if you bother to look them up! & don't overuse
i use a thesaurus all the time. sometimes the perfect word doesn't pop into my head on its own

If you use a thesaurus to punch up your prose, you look like an idiot to people who know writing, who know the subtle meanings of those words.
If you use exactly the right word, and turn a delightful phrase, all readers will appreciate.

This is what I don't get about the trend of shitty AI generated hero images on every article. You're deliberately giving me a barrier to overcome before I can see your content.
