For generations, the family of five-year-old Alma Beaulieu didn’t know what happened when she died at St. Joseph’s Residential School in Fort Resolution, N.W.T. More than 80 years later, Alma's sister...

There are some fast food chain workers who wish people would just treat them decently most of the time, not throw sauce at them, and not tell them to smile (men usually telling the teen girl to smile.) the customer ain’t always right, and the entitlement that that sentiment produced is toxic.
Had an interesting conversation today with someone who said they pick fast food chains based on whether the workers smile and greet customers.

I can't help but suspect there's a throughline from chattel slavery to modern-day expectations of service workers.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.

if you are food insecure for both the humans and pets in your household there is a tool called Pet Help Finder that can help locate pet food banks nearby and other free or reduced price assistance and supplies for pets.
no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, should have to give up their pet bc of this.

Here's a fun one while we wait for polls to close.

Cuomo lost in the Democratic primary for NYC Mayor & he's running again in the General as an independent.

Why doesn't this happen more often?

The “They do not deserve help” way of running the world isn’t working for most of the world. But even those who are most victimized by this way buy into it so strongly. It’s sad.

@belovedasheville1.bsky.social is stepping up as usual for the Asheville community. With folks not receiving their SNAP benefits, they found a way to not just hand folks a box of food, but to provide people with opportunity to choose own food based on their allergies, cultural, & other needs.

The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP.

Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP.

The people who need help are not the problem.

It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.
