Some translation thoughts on recent Tsumiki chapters.
JP: こんなにキラキラしてるもの (LIT: After all, they are sparkling this much.)
キラキラ (kirakira / sparkling) has a really wide use case in Japanese, so translating it is always a challenge.

There's a new English release of Mushishi, lettered by Phil Christie (@kernedout.bsky.social). I adore how Urushibara-sensei utilizes texture in her art, and how the sound effects inherit that texture. Phil does an amazing job replicating that with subtitled SFX. Notes in alt text!

I've been following this in Japanese, and it's already one of my all-time faves! I'm so excited to see it out in English! And Mei's doing a beautiful job with the character voices; this *is* poetry 💞
Surprise! I'm the translator on this~! Maybe it's silly to wax poetic on a title about gyarus being in lesbians with each other, but it's manga like this that really makes me so grateful to be allowed to do this job full-time. It's just so good! Me and the team will do our best!

Some SFX are more descriptive. I think one of my favorite fun SFX is translating きっちり (precise, thorough, neat) as LOGISTICS. I don't know, there's just something fun about that word screaming at you in all caps, lol.

I’m off on vacation for the week but it looks like hope you’re happy lemon is finally on sale. I’m the letterer for th3 print version, and wooieee was it a lot of work but working with the art was a lot of fun. I’ll try posting some lettering examples when I’m back.
