Ah the 1970s.

Stagflation, three day weeks, collapsing infrastructure. Civil War in Northern Ireland. In yer face racism and bigotry everywhere. Bin strikes. Strikes in general. Blackouts. Industrial decline. Wage inequality. Dog crap everywhere. And households spent 25% of their income on food.

As a retired Editor of news programming this should imho have been dealt with at an editorial level. It probably was. What led to top level resignations was the determination of Tory “agent” Gibb, Farage and Johnson to go public and bring in Trump to force a change of leadership in time for 2029

Further to this, it is disappointing that most of the news coverage of the $1bn threat letter did not critically engage with its content.

Instead, most coverage accepted the content of the letter at face value.
My post yesterday on the $Ibn Trump legal threat against the BBC has been picked up by newspapers around the world. It would appear few had gone through the letter and spotted that, well, it contained no evidence in support of its claims of damage.

Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?

Good, if chilling, thread...
This is what is happening. It is cynical. It is strategic. It is organised. It is well funded.

And we need to pay attention.

The far right - and their cheerleaders, mimics, tribute acts, and handmaidens have identified two presentational frameworks that give them cut-through and traction. 1/7

A great day for the golden rule of political analysis: when the right wins it is a resounding ideological victory that humiliates the left and when the left wins it is a precarious fluke that will surely end up humiliating the left. Conservatives are power’s landlords and the left merely tenants

Just took a deep breath & went to look at X. It's an absolute cesspit of hatred & glee: one huge account after another blaming the Huntingdon attacks on immigration, with total disregard for information, evidence or the safety of those at whom they're pointing. The yearning for violence is palpable.

X is a cesspit led by an unhinged billionaire who is desperately trying to stir up civil war in Britain.

Nobody with any sense or decency should be there.

No organisations, government departments, or politicians should be there.

Everyone who is, is enabling this monster.

🌳 As a #NationalTrust member I’ve just voted for the recommended slate to keep out the bogus, right-wing entryists of “Restore Trust”. Anything this creep wants is bad for Britain and bad for our heritage.
🌳 If you’re a member, vote Recommended Slate now: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/who-we-are/a...
One vital reason to vote in the National Trust elections and for the NT endorsed candidates. We can't risk the Restore Trust candidates getting any influence on it.

The US & UK constitutional traditions both assume that the best way to constrain a tyrant is to ensure parliamentary control over "the power of the purse".

If a president can pay troops via a private donor, & impose taxes at his personal whim, a key pillar of Anglo-American constitutionalism falls.
I know this is obvious. And I know we all know this.
But if the President can raise taxes because an advert annoyed him, without even consulting Congress, then the US constitution is simply not functioning as intended.

Look, I am warning you. Do not click on an advert for frying pans on Instagram. It doesn't matter how curious you are. It doesn't matter how knackered you current pans are. All you will see for months are ads for pans. They will follow you everywhere. They will never stop.

If ever there was a time not to normalize Trump’s authoritarian fever dreams, this is it.

This should be impeachable. ‘War ravaged’ Portland? He’s insane - & insanely power hungry. The script is set - call an imaginary group a terror group and then send in the troops.
