This was an invented moral panic. The NYT and Fox News ran more stories about trans people than the Advocate, an explicitly LGBTQ publication. It was the exact same story in the UK. The media fanned the flames of a moral panic.
Just started doing new data analysis and I know I keep saying this, but: I really, really don't think people appreciate how much this moral panic was a deliberate and extremely expensive invention.

Umm... No. Discovery had an entire arc explaining that it isn't possible to travel to the "Mirror Universe" anymore. It has diverged too far to make travel to and from that universe possible.
