Do you have any side characters with their own adventures going on in the background of your story?
Do we get many glimpses?
Is it in the same genre as your main work? E.g. romance in the background of horror?

A fairly recent event in her home country (~20 years ago) has had a huge impact on the MC, and it's responsible for why she had to escape from her country.
It was a fairly complex war that ended in a messy way and resulting tensions are still ongoing.

The right side of her head is shaved at the start (she has reasons for this) but grows it to the same length as the rest later.

Here's an appearance one that I don't think we've talked about yet: What does your character's hair look like?
Do they have hair? Long or short? What color? How do they usually wear it? Is it important to them?

MC's namesake, a hero queen from a couple of millennia before the story began. She is mostly known for grasping the undead situation quickly and developing countermeasures, which were unpopular at the time with some people.

Your cast is assigned a group project to complete!
Who is doing all the work?
Who disappeared on the first day and hasn't been seen since?
Who is bringing snacks but otherwise hasn't contributed?

How does your character feel about physical touch?
Are they fans of a handshake, hug, pat on the back, etc?
Do they prefer to keep their distance?
Does it matter how close they are to the other person?

It is character potluck day! Everyone is gathering for a meal!
What is your character bringing? Do they have a favorite dish/something they make in a pinch?
Bringing ice or crudité is also acceptable!

The city where most of the action happens is at the river mouth. The capital is near one of its many sources. There are also many cities/villages/other assorted settlements along it. The river is a couple of thousand km long easily through any of it's tributaries.

I meant to do this but this is the part I completely skipped over somehow. I will get to it eventually.

You could say my MC is human. At least she's human enough to pass for one.
There are other human-like peoples in the setting, and there are a lot of them. It's also common for mages to have some non-human ancestry.
Are your characters human?
If not, tell me a little about what they are!
If so, are there any non-human species they interact with regularly? Tell me a bit about them and the type of relationship they have!

I'm going to stick to the same river (though the harbour would be interesting as well).

My MC would guvegood advice about battle strategy/tactics, survival, and shadow magic, but you'd need to put in some effort to get her to talk to you. Or mess up in her line of sight and she'll rescue you because she can't watch.

She's reasonably used to water. She can swim and row a boat (mostly in a lake), and she has been on boats many times. She has caught a fish once in a while. She knows how to find water if needed.
She is somewhat useful with navigation, but lacks ocean specific skills.

There aren't formality registers per se, except using the standard form of the language reads as more formal/polite. There are some extremely informal registers, but these are mostly regional to cities.
Essentially you'd be changing word choice + a bit of accent as well.

There are disagreements, but also MC is the type to go along with a mild inconvenience rather than speak out (she might even enjoy the process).
There is a pretty serious disagreement I can think of but that's spoilery and MC thinks the other party is being unrealistic.
Let's do another side character day! Do you have any characters who disagree with your protagonist?
What do they disagree about?
Does your side character have a point or are they being foolish? A bit of both?

Easiest: I would say dialogue but keeping it on track can be difficult
Hardest for me: Drawn out battle scenes. Takes me forever to write because I'm trying to keep the action going.
Easiest: Dialogue. I trained on Gilmore Girls, Tolkien and Buffy lmao. Dialogue is my jam.

There is plenty of wildlife in the water. It's in very good condition despite running right through a big city.
Also there are sentient peoples in it, but most people don't know about it. The river is both wide and deep, and one doesn't investigate it
