We know division can be classified as partitive or quotative. Does subtraction have similarly clear words to denote distance vs removal?

Introduced Sum of Squares (sometimes known as Pythagorean theorem) with this activity. I showed a list of triangle side lengths which they drew on 1 cm grid paper and determined whether each made a right angles triangle. As a class we determined 👍 or 👎.
