Grew up in the 1940-60s…never thought grocery shopping would evolve to warehouses, bulk buying, memberships required, pre-assembled & cooked meals, flatbed carts, self-checkout, credit cards…

One of the defining feelings in American life, for decades now, is elites doing plainly criminal shit and nothing at all happening as a result. It is deranging in a way that virtually nothing else is. Media fixates on perceived street lawlessness but shit like this matters much more in my opinion.

It probably won't be long before this steam engine firebox, and the splintered remains of the building that once housed it, are completely buried by rocks tumbling down the steep slopes northeast of Leadville, Colorado. #colorado #ruins #history #photography

It's hard to believe there was ever enough water to turn this water wheel and power anything in the small stream north of Black Hawk, Colorado near where I found it, but the landscape has probably changed a lot since it was built. #colorado #artifacts #history #photography

While there is plenty of evidence that this miner's cabin has had visitors during the century since it was abandoned, its location high up on the side of a cliff near Montezuma, Colorado, has kept it safe from casual plunderers. #colorado #history #photography

Apparently, Kali could tell from the smell that this powder house near Black Hawk, Colorado was no different than any other she had ever seen, because none of her footprints were anywhere near it. #kali #kuvasz #dogs #colorado #ruins #history #photography

Deep snow not only made the hike to this abandoned townsite west of Jamestown, Colorado extremely difficult, but also far more interesting than it would have been in the summer. #colorado #history #photography #ruins

I like this turkey tail because it looked like a flower. I thought it was very pretty striking colors and light.

My Father before WWII & his last time in uniform for a military funeral. In between the first and second photo he fought in WWII, 2 tours of Korea, & 2 tours of Viet Nam. He landed at Utah Beach & took part in maneuvers in Cuba long before the Bay of Pigs.

Seneca-Letters to Lucilius
Seneca uses Autumn imagery more subtly. In letter 24, he compares human life to the changing season. Emphasizing that aging and death are as natural as the turning of the year.
Detach from what must pass. Release without distress.

Paper Birch
The bark is quite flexible and waterproof, making it a popular raw material. Paper birch bark is used in canoe construction, as well as clothing and waterproof coverings.
Also, the inner bark can be boiled and eaten. And it’s used medicinally.
