My grandfather died in the Athena, Georgia, jail in 1965 from drinking bad moonshine.

Fermentation naturally produces methanol, and distilling concentrates it.

If you don’t know what you’re doing, it’s quite possible to inadvertently consume a dangerous — even lethal — dose.

TL;DR don’t do this.
Freeze distillation moonshine videos getting 10m views probably a solid recession indicator:

This is from Autocracy, Inc, about how modern autocratic propaganda works.

I consider this every time I decide what to share and how to frame it.

If you're in need of positive and rather wholesome news, there's a high school teacher named Bryan who took a ton of freely licensed celebrity headshots at the New York Film Festival last month for Wikipedia, and I truly can't believe how drastic the upgrade is for some articles (thread)

HOW VOTERS PICK A CANDIDATE:

-they observe the social environment (largely through media)
-they decide what role they want to play in that environment (respected? savvy? oppositional?)
-they pick the candidate they think fulfills that role
-they reverse-engineer an explanation for their pick
Feeling like that chimpanzee that hanged himself rn

There’s a wing of the online left that denies the reality of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, its constant bombing campaigns against hospitals, schools, and malls, and the mass kidnapping of children. And why? Because anything that opposes the US and its allies *must* be the good side 😠

Andy Ngo succeeded in inspiring violence yet again
Last night in Portland, Portland city council person @candaceavalos.bsky.social woke up to her car and home on fire from suspected arson. She has been a target of the far-right for months, by people like Andy Ngo, who has admitted on court record that his posts targeting people can lead to violence.

Even people who have turned their ad blockers off are reporting the site isn’t working. This all seems like a bad idea

as the person who kicked off a lot of the modern "civil war 2" discourse i don't think we're past the point where that can be avoided. i do think we are already in a state of mass civil conflict. but many nations (see: Italy) have been through similar upheavals without war.
