Yeah, there's good content here but growth FEELS like it's heavily slowed, and the reputation Bluesky has for harassing and bullying centrist and centre-left types is surely one factor.
people get mad at me when I say this but it's a Serious Problem for bluesky's long-term viability that the userbase actively tries to bully people they don't like off here

The problem is that Bluesky is still a niche platform at 1.3 Mil active users per day globally. Getting your boss to say yes to making an account and dedicating the time and effort to maintaining it means they need to see positives for that investment. A middle finger isn’t a good return.

This battle over Abrego Garcia is simple. It doesn't matter that he was here illegally. It doesn't matter if he's a gang member or if he's a wife beater (both of which are disputed). It doesn't matter if you think he deserves to be deported or to be in prison. / thread

Every word of this
Those who know me know I was highly critical of what I saw as some of the rhetorical excesses of the campus protests. Khalil and I wld probably get into a spat immediately. It's all the more important for people who believe as I do to say clearly, the protections of the law are for everyone.
A federal judge in NY has blocked any effort by the Trump administration to deport Mahmoud Khalil – whose arrest and imminent deportation Trump celebrated on Turth Social today — until further proceedings play out. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Так много побед, что им надоело побеждать?
I think Russian intelligence services cannot believe their good fortune at everything that is happening right now. This is a bonanza across the board. The vicious attack on Ukraine, nutters at the FBI, Gabbard at DNI, shredding of CI capabilities. A monumental tragedy for the West.
This is incredible. Knock yourself out, Russian intel services. “A person familiar with the matter …said analysts at the agency were verbally informed that they were not to follow or report on Russian threats, even though this had previously been a main focus for the agency.” Cc @ciaranm.bsky.social

Bravo to @doubleaspect.blog for this eloquent, intelligent, morally serious post about the incoherent, puerile, and deeply unserious petition to Parliament to revoke Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship. Read it.
New post: the petition demanding that Elon Musk be deprived of his Canadian citizenship is a disgrace. The tendency it represents, if unchecked, would lead Canada to become just what Canadians abhor in the United States. doubleaspect.blog/2025/02/25/a...

I was curious if there is a case to revoke citizenship beyond "we don't lie this person" (probably not a good basis tbh). It looks like no? In 2017 the Act was changed so that even "high treason" is not a method of revoking citizenship (link: www.canada.ca/en/immigrati...) www.cbc.ca/news/world/e...

Mr. Angus, respectfully, why are you doing this? You know there's no legal means to revoke Musk's citizenship, and that changing the law to do so would breach the Charter—because you and your party rightly voted against it a decade ago. Those signing the petition may not know better, but you do.

In the fight against aspiring fascists engaged in retribution against actual or perceived political opposition, including denials of citizenship, our best weapon is... apparently politically motivated retribution by means of a denial of citizenship.

Beyond Despair

We are so fucking awful

In the past day or so, a Jewish man in Miami saw two Palestinians on the street and opened fire. Seventeen shots. No words exchanged. No threat. Just stops his truck in the middle of the road, gets out, and starts shooting. In fucking Miami.

Just splendid work from @jamesbloodworth.bsky.social ripping off the mask from Douglas Murray. The next time someone asks me why I object to Murray being lionized by so many in our community—and I've had that conversation more than once since Oct 7!—this is the article I will point them to.
“Looking back at Douglas Murray’s public career, what is striking is how little the core of his thinking has evolved. Instead, it has calcified, expressing itself in an ever-belligerent posture of ethnic and cultural chauvinism”— @jamesbloodworth.bsky.social.

Much respect to @radiofreetom.bsky.social for calling it as he sees it. I'd agree with the replies saying "this isn't the time or place" if he'd made such comments at the funeral. But this is a public forum, Carter was a public figure, and you can always choose not to read criticism of the deceased!
I might have more to say later, but all the reviews of Carter's presidency emphasize his character, his success in the Mideast, and inflation/gas prices.
But left out of all that: His Cold War policies were abject failures and left America in a precarious situation by 1980. /1

Remember, if you publicly threaten, dox, defame, and insult a person you disagree with, using as much profanity as possible, that will convince people who aren't already on your side. I mean, it probably won't convince them that your view is correct, but it will certainly convince them of something.
