Interesting article in the @theobserveruk.bsky.social on land ownership in Scotland. @andywightman.scot
Mostly about community buyouts. What happened to getting rid of primogeniture as a way of breaking up large estates?

It’s a disgrace.
Working on a text for an artistic collaboration with sculptor Mark Butler about the hen harrier.

How's this for a stat? English habitats currently support only 10% of the hen harriers that they could carry if there were no illegal persecution.

It won't stop until grouse shooting ends.
The whole industry thinks it's their birth right to kill everything that poses a threat to grouse.
What a very sad place we are in.

Approving the Rosebank oil field would be a catastrophic mistake for Scotland’s climate, economy, and communities.

Rosebank will not lower bills or improve energy security. What it will do is lock us into climate chaos while profits flow to shareholders and Norway’s sovereign wealth fund.

Come on ScotGov, this is unforgivable - and stupid! Funding for paths, etc, has always been part of the agricultural funding farmers could bid for, since 2005. It’s a tiny proportion of the overall farming budget. If land managers can’t get £££, why should they pay for this public good themselves? 😡
Quality trails = more healthy, happy walking people. 🚶

So we're shocked to learn that ScotGov’s post-Brexit farm subsidy system will fail to replace lost funding for paths and access. ➡️ www.ramblers.org.uk/post-brexit-...

Scotland will be left with the worst funding for outdoor access in Britain.🤦🏻‍♀️

If Rosebank is given the go-ahead it will be catastrophic for our climate.

MSPs must reject Rosebank!
Today the Scottish Parliament will vote on our motion opposing Rosebank.

The oil field would release a massive 250 million tonnes of new carbon emissions into our atmosphere, 50 times as much as previously admitted!

We must put people and planet first, not corporate profits.

A very important post for all to read especially Scottish Governmen. Stop appeasing the landowning lobby.
"the practice of muirburn actually made no difference to the extent of the Dava megafire.
Muirburn dries out the land by killing off the vegetation and drying out the peat, making it less resistant to fire. leaves behind lots of dead stems of heather which which provide perfect fuel”Prof D MacMillan
