Expect sarcasm, it'll save time & avoid unnecessary questions.
If something is illogical, or someone has made an error in their reasoning, I will call them out on it.
If I'm wrong, I'll admit it.
If I think it is funny, I will not explain why.

A very strange UK politics where it seems the two traditional parties are targeting the same ~20% of the population and nobody very much cares about the remaining 80%.

Looks like Rachel Reeves has conveniently forgotten that Brexit brought about the need to duplicate many roles that EU bodies used to do on behalf of the UK?

This is what the right wing politicians want, a poorly educated population that they can radicalise to their own purposes.
The outcome is an oligarchy with dictatorial tendencies, the exploitation of the masses to enhance the wealth of the minority.
Democracy is a casualty of these ideologies.

I think that the EU need to put in place a mechanism that could be used to boot problematic members out.

They have a pipeline of countries desperate to join. They don't need the aggravation of rabble-rousers like Hungary.

The mere existence of such a mechanism might have a stabilisation effect.

"Taxing the rich" certainly wouldn't solve the UK's economic woes by itself, and it's foolish to tout the idea as a silver bullet that could magic all our problems away.

But by golly it would at the very least make the pain everyone else has to endure feel a bit more tolerable.

I will follow the seven journeys of itselfiness for the rest of my life, and will encourage others to also use their time, and extra time to unprison their think rhinos.
Well, that's today's task sorted then...
Nicola — for the avoidance of doubt, this was an outright pisstake by @gralefrit.bsky.social and me. We inherited an office and decided to be silly on a whiteboard. It's mine and Joel's handwriting on that flipchart. I posted it on Twitter in March 2017. That really is the whole story.

Donald Trump is a moron advised by some of the dumbest idiots in the world all doing the bidding of an evil dictator. They will tear down the institutions that stabilise world order.

We need to boost defence spending from 2.5% to 3% of GDP.

One way of paying for it would be to claw back (most of) the 4% of GDP we lost to Brexit.

It would of course pay for a swathe of other things too. Goodbye all that Austerity 2.0 nonsense.

But getting started MUST be the first step.

Exactly this. Awful.
Ffs 🤦‍♂️

1. This is a virtually non existent increase in defence spending. A pathetic response in context.

2. But for the aid budget this is a painful, significant cut, coming on top of the closure of USAID, that that will cause real damage and make the U.K. less safe.

Bad politics, bad policy 👎
Keir Starmer announces Nato-qualifying UK defence spending will rise to 2.5% of GDP/year by 2027 (from around 2.3% today) - to be funded by cutting overseas aid budget from 0.5% of GDP to 0.3%
