Fighting games don't really struggle, its just that the industry has decided that normal multiplayer games can't exist, they all have to be infinite money generators, and fighting games are just a bad fit

it's hard not to think about how 5 or 10 years from now, the shooters (and games writ large) we'll be reverently talking about will still be the same ones we talk about now (DOOM 2016, Titanfall 2, etc) because there is no money going around to make new ones of those happen. we are in purgatory.

it's insane to me as someone who watched the live service model grow into what it is today that these kinds of games aren't even given a month to live and potentially grow and gain and audience when something like league or fortnite didn't blow up overnight.

the key is "99% of cases," as the only anime people who looked down on VLC were fansub turbonerds (like me) anyway. Most regular fans were fine using VLC, and we either had to make shareable graphics explaining the problems or accept that at least they weren't streaming in three parts off youtube.
