Yeah, the Bomberman licensed worked when the marble shooters were a generic thing you molded a copyright-ed little guy around, but after a while of Takara Tomy adding gimmicks and customization options during the Super B-Daman series, they just went and made their own little guys.

crash b-daman has gone from an arc about kidnapped adults doing forced labor in an underground mine to build secret b-daman war weaponry and is now in a tournament where entrants are put through traumatizing WW2 trench warfare to develop child soldiers before kidnapping them in giant nets.

they really repeated the safety measures of "don't point these things at people" in the first episode just for these kids to fire rocket launchers at each other halfway through. it was really illuminating to learn what this show's tagline was.

i've come around on Crash B-Daman since posting that. Not in the sense of going back on a single word I wrote, but I think I can at least change the nuance of its insanity from (derogatory) to (affectionate)

Crash B-Daman does not have a lot going for it, but making the edgy rival character go on soliloquies about the beauty of destruction in Urara Takano's Literally Kai Hiwatari voice was brilliant. The hobbyani version of having a robot anime villain voiced by Shuichi Ikeda.
