This short thread by @chanda.blacksky.app is very much worth a read, especially in light of learning once again that high-status political and academic men (eg Larry Summers) can be dangerous pigs and that it’s a constant professional BURDEN to women in the same field, especially women of color. ⬇️

So, Gigabyte motherboards with AMD processors have known issues in Linux unless IOMMU is enabled, but IOMMU kept Linux from seeing my USB 3.0 ports, but adding stuff to GRUB fixed that.
I'm hoping with my 3.0 ports working I might get better performance from my capture device. I'll test it tonight.

I can’t express how disappointed I am about this. Was really looking forward to this adaptation. I was gonna see it this weekend but don’t think I’m going to bother now. The ending is part of the point: with nothing left to lose, he goes out on his own terms, making his enemies bleed along with him.
So, lemme see how Edgar Wright changed The Running Man ending ...

It's amazing how faithful the adaptation is almost to the end, where Wright undermines the story in a way that misses the point by a country mile.

[Linux gaming] I talked earlier about Baldur's Gate 3 not running; re-installing Steam via flatpak did not solve the problem. What did solve it was installing ProtonUp-Qt and using that to install GE-Proton, and then assigning that to BG3 in the game's Steam properties.

…but like, I get that John Leguizamo had scheduling issues, but if they needed a substitute Bruno for “All of You,” they didn’t need to go with some random guy. Lin Manuel Miranda was right back-stage the whole time.

In my Linux journey, I do enjoy finally discovering why something's not working and actually fixing it. With every temporary set back, I learn something new, and gain more skill. That's honestly pretty fun!

My desktop hard drive's been showing signs of failing, so I finally ordered a new SDD to replace it. Before it's delivered, I decided to mess around with other Linux distros to see if I'd like something other than just installing Ubuntu again. I played around, & I think I'll go with Mint this time.
