Or, hear me out, the masked gang has always been “the law.” This is consistent with US history where our police emerged from slave patrols; where our prisons are new plantations.

Abolition is the answer.
We still have no idea who the ICE agents are. They could be insurrectionists, extremist militiamen or criminals themselves, chasing law-abiding citizens down the street for recording their kidnappings. The odds they aren't are low. Congress must raise hell about this. A masked gang runs our country.

Thread. Please stay on this case @beyer.house.gov.
I just met with legal counsel for my constituent, Dr. Badar Khan Suri.

Dr. Suri is a global conflict scholar at Georgetown who was detained without explanation by masked agents outside his Arlington home, then disappeared without due process to a prison 1,300 miles from his wife and children. 1/

It is chilling that Republicans on the Judiciary Committee just voted to allow Trump to illegally detain and deport US citizens.

Don’t tell me that we are exaggerating about authoritarianism.

Everyone should watch @repyassansari.bsky.social speaking truths about Abrego Garcia to Laura Ingraham last night. She told Fox viewers *five times* that Trump is defying SCOTUS and that his renditions are illegal/authoritarian, which they never hear.

In case anyone missed the rationale behind the show :-)

Expertise matters, accessible scholarship matters, and so does building spaces to explore difficult legacies with people who can actually contextualize and engage with them. Public history matters - and so does the issue of *who* is making it.
Some pre-TGS thoughts:

I think we should imagine a world where ‘great man’ ideology is actively challenged, public historical media is not primarily made by angry white dudes for angry white dudes, and where voices and stories that are often overlooked as a result of that bias are instead uplifted.

A good way to understand why wealth inequality is a problem is, if some idiot says "no regulations should exist" you just laugh at him, but if that idiot has $400 billion then it's an existential crisis for America.

This #BlackHistoryMonth, we honor the generations of trailblazers who came before us and fought for a society that gives everyone a seat at the table.

Black history is American history, and that should be recognized and celebrated every single month.

for the folks who keep asking me why I don’t refer to myself as “composer” anymore: it’s a title that locked out too many people (composers) - and still is. same with “American composer”. that one’s even worse. mainstream society, academia and the commercial music industry do this. who else?
